SPEED’s Sound & Picture Quality Issues (Merged)

I thought the FOM can give Speed either the 16:9 feed, or 4:3 feed which it seems that Speed is using.

I am having to use my zoom/aspect mode in my media center to get the output correctish, and it will either chop off parts of the timing, or squash the cars a bit.

I would think that Speed "should" realizes by now that most race fans are using HD sets, and we should be able to get the 16:9 feed.

I know we are not supposed to petition for things, but can we please get the correct feed???

I have not gone full HD with DirecTV because there is no great solution for me to get HD into my computer yet. Still waiting on the new box DirecTV is working on but has now pushed back.. grrr

So I use OTA to get all the local stations in HD. Really prefer using Windows Media Center for our solution, and will do without HD for Speed for now (only station that I care about for HD really that is not OTA). Our solution cuts all the commercials out automatically for example.

It is INDEED bush league. The problem was not there during the Aussie GP, however it popped up during ALL of the Malaysia sessions. It's unacceptable. Here's some evidence :

Aus GP (perfectly fine, they did have a problem during Quali, but they fixed it during the middle of the session):

Malaysia GP (notice how I can see HALF of the lap count/timer icon) :

Chinese Quali (notice how the lapcount/timer is almost 80% un-seeable, and the P1 block is totally missing) :

Very first year I've had problems with this on Speed. Very disappointing.

Some information on my setup, this is an SD-TV with DirecTV as my provider.

I was going to make a post about this problem earlier today, I'm glad (or made even more mad) that others are also having this problem and voicing their displeasure.

I have made no changes to any video settings and this is exactly how it appeared on my set with DirecTV.

I have the same problem. I'm still watching it on a CRT TV. Yes, I'm a low tech guy. red face

If I play the DVD I recorded from the Comcast feed on my computer, everything is there. But the lap counter on the top is fairly close to the top and it's half cut off on my TV. I guess they (FOM, not Speed) are assuming everyone has a plasma or LCD TV. confused

I thought there were two world feeds, a 4:3 and a 16:9.
FOM don't produce a 4:3 feed, they produce 2 16:9 feed's.

One is a pure 16:9 feed with the graphics outside 4:3 safezone's & a 2nd 16:9 feed that keeps the graphics in 4:3 safezone's for braodcasters like SPEED that crop it down to 4:3.

BBC take the 16:9 feed that retains 4:3 safezone's, Premiere & RTL in Germany both take the pure 16:9 feed.

So it is even worse than I thought, they crop a 16:9 feed to 4:3!! Nice Speed, thanks!

I have Verizon FIOS and have the same problem with the graphics being cut off. No problem last year, only started this year.

I suspect your tv (hd?) has severe overscan and yes LCD/Plasma sets have overscan (stupidly IMO), as everything looked fine to me as well (HDTV), but I know my set has side overscan, which seems very odd but I saw supposedly proof via a test screen on HDTH or HDN channel 1 very early in the morning time, look for it, it is called 'test screen or setup' for us to test not HD nets.

PS: Unless you can get to your 'maintenance' menu, you can do nothing about it!

After two rounds you'd think SPEED and whomever does the production for FOM could collaborate well enough to fit the practice clock, the Q clock, and P1 driver and timing info into the top of my screen without the top half of the text being chopped off. All I see is the bottom half, so they're unreadable. It's not my tv, as I have never had this problem until this season, and I've seen the same thing on other TVs around town this year.

Seriously. This is bush-league. Get it together, guys.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is having this issue. The lap/counter is chopped off. It's on all of my TV's like that so I don't think it is me. BTW, We have Comporium here so it's not a Time Warner problem either.

I am having the same problem. I was having the same problem on my local fox station also. Well people complained and now they crop the screen so much I have black bars around the screen. Which is kinda annoying but it is better than the F1 way.
