What is Wrong With NASCAR? M

Everyting that I stated in my orignal post has been underlined ny NASCAR and events that occurred during the "regular season".
A few examples:
1. The "winner" of the Superbowl of NASCAR, the Daytona 380, was mediocre all year and didn't make the coveted chase.
2. The driver tied for the most wins of the season didn't make the chase.
3. Drivers who didn't win a race all year are in the chase.
4. When asked what it would mean to win his 5th championship, Jeff Gordon responded by saying that he would view it as his first. He explained that his previous 4 were under a completely different format and that a championship under the chase format is not the same as a championship earned over an entire season.
NASCAR can hype it all they want...the chase is a joke, victories awarded because a team does't pit when rain is threatening is a joke...the best driver throughout the season not winning the championship is a joke.

Dirt tracks are great!!!! I grew up going to Saturday night Midgets at Corona and at Ascot Park. I agree, flat track dirt races are awesome!!!

If NASCAR wanted to somehow make the final 10 races more "important", how about double points for those races instead of the Chase and it's point reset?

15000 hits? Man-oh-man! You people need to check out the new book that goes right at all of these complaints. It pretty much attacks NASCAR's management and gives a good look at what fans think. Great pictures, too! Go to http://www.racepublication.com to check it out.

Everyone seems to have an idea about this, some good, some not so good. Most everyone agrees that Nascar needs to change, and do it sooner than later. Some like the Chase, some hate it, I personally dislike it enough to want to change the system altogether. But, first things first, I want the car changed immediately. that this is a tank on wheels, sure is safe, but just being safe isn't racing. There has to be racing built in, and the ability for teams to make changes to the cars to make them better, they can't do that now with the rules they way they are. Nascar, give it up, spec cars aren't worth it. Just look at IRL, spec cars have given them nothing but diminished viewership, mediocre racing, and for the first time in racing history(probably) Oldsmobile racing engines. UGH.
Then need to tackle the starting grid, need less cars per race. maybe 30 tops, more for tracks like daytona and taladega, less for bristol and martinsville.
Points system..200for 1st..180for2nd..etc.. award 50 extra for pole position....25 for fast lap of race...25 for leading most laps
Let cars race back to yellow flag.(can be left in or taken out)
No more caution for cars not on racing surface(to include apron) if in grassy infield, let em race. Specify reason for caution, not just std. "debris". Very annoying...
No need to visit more than one track per season. Unless mandated by tradition. Such as Daytona 500/Pepsi 400. No two trips to Dover or Fontana, or New Hampshire. Less overall calendar races better off racing would be right there. Shorten the calendar, then you dont have to start in February, ie. less rainouts for 500. 20-25 races should suffice
Standard start time. 1pm eastern...period, unless night race... then 7pm eastern.
Kill Chase... if you must keep it, shorten the field for those races..20 cars no more.
Qualify on Sat...Period, give fans the opportunity to watch the spectacle on Tv, not friday afternoon. Then have a shake down practice of 20-30laps on race day.
Shorten the races from 500 to no more than 300 miles, unless mandated by tradition. daytona 500, coke 600, indy 400. Thats why road courses are so great to watch, they are racing, then they are over, none of this drawn out boring mess. with only 10-20 laps of racing.
These are just some of the outward looking things that I would implement. Nothing that really isn't over complicated or too difficult to change. But Nascar is too big for its own good, and a slave to corporate sponsorship.

I'll add one more thing to your list....No more 'racing junk' on track. You wreck, and you can't complete 90% of the scheduled racing laps....load the car on the hauler and get out of Dodge! Cars that can't complete 90% of the scheduled racing laps (where the race isn't shortened by weather) don't score any points. To score points you must be running and take the checker.

Not to mention, if you don't complete 90% of the scheduled distance you get no money either. Unless of course for a legit engine blowing or accident. No 2 laps and overheating etc.

No 2 laps and overheating etc.Pay them the money....they need it. If you are creating a 'show and go home' class, and the 'mandate' for 43 starters does, they need the money to be able to show up the next race. Racing is not ALL about the stars....it is also about those that do it for the LOVE of the sport...the Show & Go Home guys are in it for the love of the sport and just hope to get enough to keep their operations going until the magic sponsor appears. In this economy, it will be a long wait for those magic sponsors.

Guys like Parsons want the quick money for having their valet (Blaney) park asap. No money for less than 90% of all laps. No points and no money. These guys got away with defrauding the sport too long.
