Marcia, Stacy, Randy, and Phil! MSRP! How cute! They even arranged it like manufacturer's suggested retail price!

This entire practice is completely sketch, and with impound rules now and the like, I'd be PISSED if I lost a spot in qualifying to one of these S.A.P. cars. This isn't really fair. I'm not a fan.

So would I. But at myself. If you are being out qualified by a SAP car, It's not about fair, it's about the fact that you need to get better.

A few times last year they had quality drivers in the cars. A few times Terry Cook qual. in the top 20 only to park. (SAP in series debut too) Todd also found speed in it tooo.

Where would we be with out sad pathetic sad story of a driver guys such as Andy Hillenberg, Larry Gunselmen, Kurt Shelmerdine, Brandon Whitt, Kevin Lepage, and Kertus Davis .

I didnt list Morgan and Derrike because they have done someting with their careers.

With the impound races, which most Nationwide races are, it's not as simple of just needing to get "better". The S&P;cars run setups that no team would ever consider running an actual race with.

Even without an impound rule, the S&P;teams do have the advantage of using all their available practice time to focus soley on qualifying runs.

Thank you Gary, this is what I was getting at. As well as the fact The-Carver mentioned, they are getting decent drivers behind the wheel at times.

It was good reading.. not sure I can see how they actually make any money with the start and park... it would be eeeking out a few dimes compared to a higher finish.. when you figure the cost of the car and prep and driver transports and all that I just don't see a "big Biz" happening there..

MSRP Motorsports plan Daytona 500 attempt; Cook as driver? Phil Parsons was on Tradin' Paint on SIRIUS NASCAR Radio with Rick Benjamin and Chocolate Myers Friday and said he intends to put a car in the Daytona 500:
Rick Benjamin: "Chocolate and I had speculated a little - and you were one of the guys I had in mind - you might see some ARCA teams, some truck teams, some Nationwide teams go out - and we know there are ways you can acquire a Cup car. You can lease one, borrow one, buy one, whatever is takes and go put a car on the grid there. You do that with Randy Humphrey in the Nationwide Series. You had two cars last year. Are you thinking about doing that in the Cup Series in '09?"
Phil Parsons: "We are. We are strongly considering that. We're going to kind of let the chips fall where they may and see how many cars are going to be there but our intention is, right now, is to race the Daytona 500. Not park and start in park but race the Daytona 500."(Sirius PR)
AND Hearing that the car will be a Toyota and truck series regular Terry Cook will be the driver. MSRP, owned by Phil Parsons, Randy Humphrey, and their wives, competed full time in the Nationwide Series in 2008 with two cars, #90 & #91. The #90 was primarily driven by Johnny Chapman and competed in 31 races with a best finish of 35th. The #91 had a variety of drivers, mostly Larry Gunselman and Justin Hobgood, was in 30 races, and had a best finish of 38th.(1-11-2009)

This whole thread has been funny to read, what with those of you "COMPLAINING ABOUT THE START & PARK" crew and the rest of you complaining how they shouldn't be there and can't we just PAY 35 and so on.

I wonder how many of you know that the "TOP 35 RULE" which so many (including me) abhor is the result of the "start & park" gang from way back in 2003-2004. Yep, I hate to tell ya, but the fact is they were getting in races because they had accumulated more points (or out qualified them), then teams TRYING to run a full schedule and actually RACE the whole race. NASCAR came up with the top 35 as a means of preventing the "start & parkers" from getting locked in to races and keeping out teams that actually wanted to race. I find it amusing that many of you that "HATE" the top 35 rule on so many other threads SUDDENLY want it to stop something you seem to want even LESS. OH, and also those of you that want to park everyone NOT on the lead lap, cause "THEY'RE JUST IN THE WAY", now want them to "HAVE TO FINISH IF THE CAR CAN ROLL", you are all way to funny.

Lease a semi, buy a Cup car, lease an engine, hire a weekend pit crew, qualify and park the car after 20 laps, earn more then you spent. I don't see the problem here. There is NO RULE AGAINST IT, never has been. NASCAR could eliminate them IF they wanted to. I bet they'll be glad to see them this year though. If you're Brian would you rather have 5 S&P;'s, and a 43 car field, or have to ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM when only 37 show up for a race with 43 spots. AA JMHO

I essentially agree with the previous poster.

If I recall corectly, the top 35 rule was instituted soon after NASCAR eliminated the 2nd round of qualifying. With just 1 round of qualifying there was now a risk that a competitive full time team could miss the race if they had a problem in qualifying. In my opinion, the top 35 rule was also instituted to reduce the car owners arguments for a franchise system.

The SAP cars have no impact anyway. I see no difference if there is a short field with only 38 cars showing up to run the entire race, or 43 with 5 of them as SAP, either way after 10 laps there will still be the same 38 cars racing. NASCAR in a way has encouraged the SAP cars by essentially paying the same purse for 30th to 43rd place.

I dont like this at all. Hey if I had the choice in sitting around at home or going out to the track and do what they do. Hey i would start and park. Phil is making a crapload of money. It would be good to have at least one of his cars finish once in a while though. Theres a difference between guys like Norm Benning and mike harmon compared to MSRP. Norm and mike do it because they love to climb in that car and drive it. MSRP isnt like that they want the easy buck. I agree with jay robinson in that kind of situation it is ok in my mind. JD motorsports as well. Phil you own the 2 cars ok. Does anyone know if Johnny Chapman has EVER finished a nascar race? If you gave him a dirt car he would probably park that too even if he didnt have to since he isnt use to finishing races. If interested in talking to me about this subject email me at I would like to here your opinions on this more.

The prize money is posted. These guys have a business model. It has nothing to do with racing except to take the money and go home. All NASCAR has to do is make it so that racing is cheap enough that there are 43 full time teams, and the problem solves itself.

Don't punish the guys that are rubbing NASCAR's arrogant corporate faces in their own droppings. It isn't their fault that NASCAR is dropping the ball again.

the only way to do that is to put a cap on how much money a sponsor can give a team and every time i suggest that im laughed at
