Phil Parsons is making tons of money starting and parking, but isn't owning up to it. Scanned article from the February 2009 Car and Driver magazine:

Far as I'm concerned if team has no intention of trying to run the entire race then they shouldn't be allowed to qualify.

NEW RULE IDEA: The only reason you can't finish a race in NASCAR is because of driver injury or damage to the car. If your car is capable, then it must finish or the owner gets fined.

Congrats on getting the new scanner for Christmas!

I don't like the 'start and park' teams, never have, and they have been in the sport forever but usually didn't make the fields too often with competition for entering the races where teams were really trying to stay in the top 35 took their places.

Thought there was a new rule in Nascar to stop the 'start and park' people?

My two cents. I had heard early during last season that Phil really had no interest in that team that they used his name to try to drum up sponsorship. Obviously, he allowed them to do so but he may actually be telling the truth when he denies that he has anything to do with the team.

If he has nothing to do with it and they are using his name without permission, a simple lawyers letter / court filing would pretty much put an end to it.

I don't think all the truth is being revealed.

Wait a minute. Sometimes a car is undrivable. You might force a driver to stay in the race with an unsafe vehicle.

That falls under the category of broken to point of undriveable as a sub-statement to the damage part of the rule.

The prize money is posted. These guys have a business model. It has nothing to do with racing except to take the money and go home. All NASCAR has to do is make it so that racing is cheap enough that there are 43 full time teams, and the problem solves itself.

Don't punish the guys that are rubbing NASCAR's arrogant corporate faces in their own droppings. It isn't their fault that NASCAR is dropping the ball again.

Simple fix: "Top 35 rule" should also mean that NASCAR only pays the top 35 finishing spots. That will stop the start and parkers and make the race to get into the top 35 finishers more interesting during the race. Not to mention make the purse that those who do earn money a bit higher.

Thanks for posting that article, JR. Interesting reading. You'd never see an article like that from the mainstream Nascar press. Don't want to ruffle any feathers or embarass anyone....
