Revell stops making NASCAR model kits: From the revell.com site: Over the years we have been pleased to provide you with the finest NASCAR plastic model kits featuring the most popular drivers. Regrettably however, over the last several years we have faced increasing licensing costs that are greater than our increase in sales. Despite our best efforts to secure reasonable licensing terms for NASCAR model kits in general, and the Car of Tomorrow in particular, we have been unable to develop a program that allows us to market the product at a viable price point. Consequently, we will not be issuing a kit on the Car of Tomorrow and, in fact, will be exiting the NASCAR business altogether. We will discontinue all sales of NASCAR plastic kits by February 28, 2009.(revell.com)(12-10-2008)

Same here. I just picked this one. Didn't think it was worthy of a new thread. Do kid's even build model's any more? I would think in this day of instant gratification the kid's would just have mom by a die cast.

Up until 2006 I owned a Hobby shop, and most kits were bought by adults. The villain in this case is none other then NASCAR (read that Brian France), they have increased their licensing fees to the point that the kit companies weren't able to make a profit. This was in addition to the fees paid to those that own their own names like DE and JG. There is also ongoing litigation from companies like Boeing and Grumman aircraft to get fees for the kit companies making fighter plane models. The fact that these planes are built for the US and paid for with our taxes doesn't seem to matter to the attorney's, they want MONEY. I don't know if the model companies will survive if this one goes against them. AA JMHO

Oh, really?
Gee, none of us saw that coming, did we? Nope, the hundreds of writers, who spoke of the potential problems as early as the start of the 2008 season (just to be fair), nope they didn’t see it coming, at least according to NASCAR, anyway. Nope, all of us were completely clueless as to what was going on. Nope, none of us saw that Petty was having sponsor troubles well before the ‘revealing’ article from NASCAR.com was released."
Here's why it was a surprise to me: It took Petty what seemed like forever to merge with Boston Ventures, and that was after that much heralded move to Yates old shop. As recently as a few weeks ago Richard Petty was saying that they did this deal so they wouldn't have to merge, and that these other shops needed them more than vice versa. So what happened? Yeah, times are tough, but Richard Petty clearly left the impression that over at Petty things were A-OK.
It makes you wonder just how out-of-touch with the day-to-day running of Petty Enterprises he is.

“As the kids today say: don’t hate, appreciate. Wrap your arms around it, folks, because soon it will be over—the season and the No. 48’s incredible streak. Until then, bask in the greatness. You will be among the fortunate to reminisce and say, “I remember when ...” .- Duane Cross
