SOK - you're like a GM hater. You would be more credible if your comments had applied to the big 3. The last time I checked, all three of them took corporate jets to DC to beg for money.

But GM is the only one who bought ownership in a race team for a driver it wanted, in the effort to embarrass Toyota, at a time when they were permanently ending thousands of jobs.

The private planes are just symbolic of the arrogance and priorities. The chickens are all going to come home to roost very soon.

NBC reported Monday night that GM is cutting sponsorship with golfer Tiger Woods and sponsorship of two NASCAR races. Looks like tougher times are in store for motor racing and sporting events.
The worst may yet to come. ohh

?? Where does it say that NASCAR (the company) is cutting staff or eliminating any positions? Talks about teams and sponsors, but I read it a couple of times and don't see where France and Helton are reducing their in-house workforce.

It did NOT say but if that pair can figure a way to save a penny by stealing one off a dead mans eye they will be doing it.. perhaps threaten staff to work harder for less money or no raise and lay off a few if they can figure out how to get along with out them... you can bet NA$CAR will watch every $ every penny and take full advantage of the oppertunity.

Yeah, I think that is actually very telling about the general advertising health of GM. Tiger likely did more to sale high-end vehicles than all of GM's NASCAR efforts combined. The money, of course, is in the high-end vehicles. If 7 mil per year is too much to pay Tiger, just how much can they afford to pay for something as removed from the sales as NASCAR team support?

I hope this question comes up when the CEO's go before congress dec 2nd. with their recovery plan...

About two months ago GM pulled out of the Super Bowl. No ads at all in the 2009 Superbowl.

Even before the mess of the last month, there was a lot of in-fighting at GM over funding. Racing used to have a lot of clout... no more, they've been or are in the process of being neutered.

One of two things is going to happen... a government bureaucrat or a bankruptcy judge will decide how funds are allocated.

Unless you have a link to something showing that GM bought ownership in SHR for Tony it's simply your speculation.

"Arrogance and priorities" seem to apply to all of the Big 3.

Nardelli left HD as one of the most despised CEO's ever in the eyes of the stockholders. It's a sign of how messed up corporate America is that his arrogance and incompetance was rewarded with another CEO job.

Did anyone see the fat ass Michael Moore on Larry King the other nifht. He said the Government shoild bail GM BUT,since they cant make cars that people want to buy,the government shouls force them in a different direction such as making buses and other mass transit machinery and make them concentrate on alternative fuel vehicles. That might be the only thing he has ever said i somewhat agree with.He also said they could build military vehicles and maybe even tanks

GM has made military vehicles for years! And what does that have to do with nascar cutting jobs?

The real question will always be how much longer can NASCAR run this formula?
