NASCAR itself is going to be reducing its workforce.

?? Where does it say that NASCAR (the company) is cutting staff or eliminating any positions? Talks about teams and sponsors, but I read it a couple of times and don't see where France and Helton are reducing their in-house workforce.

Like liked Brian's lame attempt at CYA...

"And that also includes our fans, who have had to fight rising fuel prices over the summer, which had an effect on us, and who have been having to fight the credit crunch that has been thrown at them."

Yeah Brian, that explains the sagging TV ratings! rolleyes

Well that doesn't affect NASCAR the organization's bottom line. Those contracts were signed a few years ago and they receive a set amount of money regardless of what the rating is.

My error. The headline I got the information said NASCAR specifically. Sorry.

Mulhern's days are numbered as well. WSJ is cutting him.

is this true or just a joke? Because seriously, with how much stuff Mulhern reports like it's fact that turns out not having much truth to it I've been wondering how they justify keeping him.

Like a lot of print media, the WSJ has been cutting back over the years and it was only a matter of time before Mulhern got the axe, too. I don't think it had anything to do with performance and I'd be surprised if he didn't pop up somewhere else.

"Petty Enterprises confirmed 30 employees have been laid off. Sources indicated Roush Fenway Racing released 35 people this week, and Haas CNC Racing laid off 16 people as it gets ready to become Stewart-Haas Racing. Bill Davis Racing has cut its Cup shop to only a handful of people, according to sources, and Wood Brothers Racing also had layoffs.

A top Roush Fenway official described his team’s moves as typical and said they reflect a decision to run fewer entries in 2009.

“We are running two less truck teams and no ARCA team next year,” Roush Fenway Racing President Geoff Smith said in an e-mail Tuesday. “The layoffs relate to those teams. Within Nationwide and Cup, the staffing is going through ‘ordinary’ type adjustments, which include normal attrition, performance, investment changes in particular areas of operation, et cetera.”

There are only 30 teams that have announced full sponsorship for next season."

I think it was Claire's show where I heard that shops are being flooded with resumes.

There will be some 10 +/- teams next year that show up with no or only partial sponsorship. You can only do that for so long before something has to happen. I think what's made it even harder for some of these teams is that they thought they had deals in place only to have them fall through at the last minute as sponsors became increasingly concerned about the economic outlook.

Things are tough all over.
