You are invited to a gathering of Champ Car fans:
Each of the past 4 winters a group of Champ Car fans has gathered in the Detroit area to have fun sharing racing information, experiences and opinions.The last three years Billy Kamphausen has been part of that group. We have set the date this winter as Saturday, January 10, 2009, and Billy Kamphausen has again agreed to put it on his calendar. As the only employee that lasted on the payroll from the beginning of CART in 1979 to the end of Champ Car in 2008 Billy has a wealth of openwheel racing stories and experiences and a lot of personal insight into the events of 2008 to share with us. This year
we are working with Billy to expand this event. Thoughts are to spend additional time together someplace, perhaps the Novi Auto Racing Hall of Fame. That might include dinner and an evening program with Billy (and another guest or two?). And there are other things we might do to enjoy the day, starting with lunch together, and/or an afternoon activity. We can also coordinate hotel space together at a reasonable price for those who come from great distances.If we know how many might be coming and what their schedules might be we can determine how best to plan our activities together. IT’S OFFICIAL !! The 5th Annual Winter Meeting of Champ Car fans will take place at The Motorsports Hall of Fame, 43000 Expo Center Drive in Novi, Michigan at 6PM on Saturday, January 10, 2009.

Each of the past 4 winters a group of Champ Car fans has gathered in the Detroit area to have fun sharing racing experiences, information and opinions.  The last three years Billy Kamphausen, former Director of Logistics for Champ Car, has been part of that group.  The date this winter is Saturday, January 10, 2009, and Billy has again agreed to be part of the group.

As the only person who was an employee from the beginning of CART in 1979 to the end of Champ Car in 2008 Billy has a wealth of open wheel racing stories and a lot of personal experiences and insight to share with us.

The cost for the evening, including both meeting space at the Motorsports Hall of Fame and dinner, is $30 per person.  To reserve your spot at this special gathering please send your check for $30 to David Pixley, 55 New London Rd., Pittsford, NY 14534.

To accommodate travelers we have negotiated a very special room rate of $79 per night at the Sheraton Detroit Novi Hotel, 21111 Haggerty Road in Novi for both Friday, January 9 and Saturday, January 10.  Call 248-349-4000 and tell them you are with CCIC Friends to get that rate.  If you want to spend a longer time visiting friends in the Detroit area the $79 rate is good from two days before to two days after the dates quoted.  The Sheraton is about 4 miles from the Motorsports Hall of Fame.

We will also designate a location where we can each order lunch and spend some additional time together on Saturday.  That will give some of us a chance to spend more time with old friends and others a chance to meet new friends who share a passion for open wheel racing.  This will primarily interest those who have traveled to Detroit on Friday for our Saturday event, but it will be open to all.  Details to follow.

Just 12 days from now 40-50 CART/Champ Car fans, volunteers and former employees will gather at the Motorsports Hall of Fame in Novi, Michigan to spend an evening sharing racing stories and experiences.  Our special guest will be Billy Kamphausen, former Director of Logistics for Champ Car and the only person on the payroll from the beginning of CART in 1979 to the end of Champ Car in 2008. Billy has lots of stories to tell.  And those of us attending this event will have an opportunity to share our own stories and racing plans for the future as well.
