Race fans are notorious for gripin’ and moanin’ about how fast the sport is going hell and pouting...

I would add the McLaren M8B in Can-Am and the Roush Trans-Am Mustang.

How about Bob Tullius and his Group 44 teams? From their TR-8's, to Trans Am Jags, on up to his XJR Prototypes, the sight of their white with the 2-tone green livery stood out at race tracks everywhere. Tullius ran a class operation with an iron fist.

Panoz LMP-1. Definitely unique, fast, and an awesome sound.
Mazda RX-792 GTP was a wicked looking car and the rotary banshee howl at full song was unforgettable.

John Player Special,first toy car I ever had,given to me by my older cousin who was a huge F1 fan,as were most kids in the early 70's.Imagine the technology we'd see today were engineers not restricted by these modern spec series.Advancement has suffered.

The Kurtis 500F-Novi, or just about any Watson-Offy from Indy. The Meister Brauser Scarabs or Ferrari 330P4 from sports cars. Maserati 250F from F1. At large nominations for anything in Cunningham white and blue , Don Yenko's Vette and Smokey's 57 chevy

P4 all the way for me. It's such a beautiful and powerful car. Also the Porsche 917 ranks up there, but more because of the sheer power of the car. My favorite road car was a one-off 959 cabriolet that was in an early issue of Sports Car International.

Along with the Porsche 917 I would have to say the 908/3 model as well. Ferrari 512, Lola T70, Jag C type and any car from the golden era of Trans Am.

1) Chance Vought F4U Corsair, Unlimited class, Reno Air Races.
2) Hawker Sea Fury, ditto.
3) Grumman F8F Bearcat, ditto.

The only time a racing vehicle should have wings is if it flies.

Oh, by the way: Rules restricting technology were not put in place to get rid of innovation-- they were put in place because:
A) The ever-increasing tech level was causing costs to increase far beyond the ability of most teams to afford (x-ref Can-Am), and;
B) If something like Le Mans 1955 were to happen in the US, there would be *no more* auto racing in the US, anywhere, ever, once the ambulance-chasers finished their business. (And don't think it hasn't almost happened here -- see the link posted a few days back for footage of the IMSA race from Riverside with the infamous three-car crash in Turn One....)
