I can across this and I say they are absolutely right.
10. Rain-sensing wipers- As if I won't notice the water falling from the sky.
9. Soda can cool zone- Good idea to keep cans cool. Except for the fact it doesn't work when the car is turned off.
8. The smart car- they just mention the transmission but the whole car is pointless.
7. Power sliding doors- Seriously how hard is it to close a sliding door?
6. Too many owner's manuals- I haven't bought a new car recently so I can't comment.
5. Self parking cars- If you can't parallel park a car you shouldn't be driving.
4. iDrive- need I say more.
3. Voice turn by turn nav systems- Does she have to be so rude?
2. Heart rate monitors- I did not hear about these till now and that is just weird.
1. Overly aggressive seats- Apparently high end luxury cars have massaging chairs that want to break your back.

My car came with a 3" thick leather-bound ring binder full of manuals, there's even a special slot for it in the glove box. It's a bit absurd.

10. Don't knock them till you tried them. Loved them in my M-B.
9. I can see you've never been on a long trip with the same bottle water that you wish would stay cool till you're next stop.
8. I still found the Smart Car fun to drive with transmission. Once you down from you're pick-up and start driving cars that get good gasmileage, you'll understand it more.
7. I guess you've never let you're kid out of the van and he's gone before you can yell at him to close the door...or other way to look at it, it stops your kid from slamming the door so hard you think its off the rails...
6. Tell everyone to stop suing over the most stupid little rule that was forgot to be mention in the car manual.
5. I agree with this one...but it's also not like its on every car...
4. Sorry techno geek, love the iDrive!
3. Maybe you need to change the accent to the voice, the British speaking lady on the Nav system seemed really nice...but I know how to use my imagination.
2. Again, I agree...but again it's not like its on every car...
1. I've drivin' the BMW 7 Series with the massaging seats and loved it. I think it should be put in every car. Maybe I'm just a big guy and it didn't bother as much as it would a small female?

Ok, I didn't make the list. So you don't have to come off so condescending.
10. Ok, you liked them but I don't see why they are even necessary. It is one switch when you see rain how hard is that?
9. No, I haven't and that is what coolers are for.
8. I drive a Nissan Versa now which is cheaper, gets better gas mileage, and has more space than the American Smart car. If I lived in Europe I would buy one, but not in North America. What makes you think I drive a truck? Is it because my pic is NASCAR?
7. No, I don't have kids so I will just have to agree to disagree.
6. good point.
5. ditto
4. I have only used one briefly at auto shows and it just seems overly complicated. I guess if you drive a BMW you eventually get used to it.
3. Maybe or it could just be my cheap dell nav system.
2. ditto
1. I have never tried them. I am just going off what the article said.

Question: What do you call any device that requires an instruction manual?
Answer: A poor design.
That's a bit of an oversimplification, and product liability and litigation necessitate instruction manuals, but if designers were to focus on designs that obviated instruction manuals their customers would be better off.

Sorry man...I'll intake more coffee before posting next time.
You were just summing what was in the article and I was just commenting more on what Kelsey Mays, the author, was says. I wasn't disagreeing with you as much as Kelsey. You just made the list so it was easy to post against it....Sorry to get you in the middle.

The Model T didnt come with an instruction manual and i bet 95% of drivers today couldn't get the thing started let alone know where to begin!

Just a comment to the person who said that if you could not parallel park a car you had no business driving. In the area where I live, parallel parking is almost a thing of the past. I have not had to parallel park in many years. Everywhere I go, there is a parking lot, whether it be any mall store, big box store, church, hospital; whatever. There is a free parking lot.
I am old. Back in the 50's and 60's I used to parallel park a lot. Street parking was widely prevalent back then, but not now. I do not know if I could still parallel park. There is no reason to require that skill now to get a driver's license, although I had to when I took my driver's test back in 1952.

I parallel park almost every day, at home and at work.
