From Jayski:

UPDATE: Kevin Harvick Inc. announced that driver Jack Sprague has been released from the #2 Chevry Silverado. KHI co-owner Kevin Harvick will assume driving duties of the #2 Chevy for the upcoming Truck Series event at Martinsville Speedway on October 18th. Details on the driver lineup for the remainder of the season will be announced at a later date. "The performance of the #2 team was not up to either Jack or KHI's standards," said Kevin Harvick, co-owner of Kevin Harvick Inc. "My main goal now is to prepare the team to run for a championship in 2009. I am looking forward to getting behind the wheel in Martinsville. It should be a lot of fun."(Kevin Harvick Inc. PR)(10-6-2008)
UPDATE 2 More: Sprague sat eighth in points, 489 behind Hornaday, after his second consecutive DNF Saturday at Talladega, Ala. He crashed with 24 laps to go at the superspeedway and finished 27th, his second-worst finish of the season, two weeks after crashing out in 26th at Las Vegas. "We didn't have the results. It was no one thing, but every week it was something. It's been a miserable year for everybody involved," Sprague said. "It's just getting to the point where enough's enough. I've got nothing bad to say, I have a lot of respect for Kevin and what he's built there, just sometimes it doesn't work." Sprague, 44, questioned the timing of the decision with five races remaining but said he understood the team's need to put the #2 in a position to land sponsorship for next season with current sponsor American Commercial Lines not expected to return. Whether he has made his final start in the Trucks remains to be seen. "I've contemplated retirement. I've had a very, very rough year and a half," he said. "This business has a lot of ups and downs, the downs are very tough to take when you want to win as bad as I do."(ESPN.com)(10-6-2008)
UPDATE 3: Wyler Racing announced that Jack Sprague will pilot the #60 Wyler Racing Toyota for the remainder of the 2008 season. Sprague replaces Terry Cook who has been released after competing in the first 20 races of the season for the team. While this reunion is currently only for the remaining races in the 2008 season, efforts are underway to secure sponsorship for the 2009 season that would allow this combination to remain intact.(Wyler Racing PR)(10-7-2008)

Pretty sad, I guess Sprague and the team weren't gelling as well as they would have liked. I guess Harvick has someone in mind that can do better than 1 pole, 5 top fives, and 9 top tens in 20 starts.

Hopefully Jack will get with a better prepared team for 2009.

This stuff happens ... they've had a long string of bad luck and unintended consequences. Sounds like the driver and the owner agree that it's time to split the sheets in spite of the record you noted.

Preparation wouldn't seem to be an issue at KHI - they switched engine suppliers before the season started and Grampa is still up front every week. His position in the points is a good indicator of the team's preparation skills.

Unfortunately, the 2 team ran only a partial schedule last year ... And they knew going in, that moving to a full-time team would cause growing pains ...

Sadly, the bad luck monster has bit the 2 team in the hiney about a zillion times ... Between blown engines, part failures & getting caught up in other peoples' messes ... I can see why Sprague's frustrated ...

Though, I think DeLana should've taken him to the GM alter and made him sacrifice something to TPTB after his anti-GM tirade last year when Setzer won at Mansfield without pitting ...

It's sad to see the only other 3-time CTS champ and # 2 on the all-time wins leave the KHI family ...

But, the Goat had the majority of the right side of his DeLana car get ripped off during the ARCA race on Friday ...

The tire blew out, nothing RC could do.

I know the tire blew out and Carmichael couldn't do anything about it ... I was trying to point out it was a bad weekend for KHI ... The truck they had built to TRG (& TJ Bell) wound up in the fence in that last lap wreck ...

The whole company (KHI) has had some weird issues this season ... Coming off last season's championship, it just seems like there's been a hex on them ...

All 3 teams have had problems ... The 2 truck has had the most problems ... The 33 truck has had some odd problems ... The 33 Nationwide car doesn't have a FT crew chief ...

just throwing my 2 cents, about RC, if he keeps the monster sponsorship, then i don't see this happening as KH has strong ties to coke? not that it's impossible, but seems like a lot of these sponsors have been real finicky lately

I was watching CNBC the other day (I'm kind of obsessed with the market for the past few weeks - there are more changes in the Dow than there were at 'Dega. raspberry), and I saw something go by on the crawl that Coke would be distributing Monster for them, so maybe it wouldn't be a conflict? smile

Terry Cook is going back to the 59 Truck for the rest of the year after being replaced by Jack Sprague at the 60 Wyler Racing truck who got released from the 2 KHI truck. So basically Harvick, Sprague and Cook are back racing for the same teams they drove last year.

Rockstar is distributed by Coca-Cola. A-B distributes Monster and owns half iirc. I feel the Trucks series is too much for RC at this time.
