Tony Stewart won the AMP ENERGY 500.
Stewart won it as much as the 1972 Soviets won the gold medal in basketball.

Not per what Nascrap rules are, or should I say were up until today!!!
Read below:
"If you can see the checkered flag on the last lap, anything goes," according to NASCAR spokesman Owen Kearns.
Thats what Nascrap said theirself, not anyone but them, the Rules Makers & Enforcers of the Rules! Read Below!

"If you can see the checkered flag on the last lap, anything goes," according to NASCAR spokesman Owen Kearns. Plus he was forced below the line. Regan Smith was the first one to the line, he won.

This is truly one of the worst calls they've made in a long time, and there is undoubtedly tons of supporting evidence for the legitimacy of Regan Smith's win. If NASCAR had any integrity they'd acknowledge that they messed up big time, and award the win to Smith. This isn't going to go away.

remember when Matt Kenseth "forced" Jr below the yellow several years back...that wasnt even as close as this and Jr was fine, no penalty

Does anyone think its possible they will reverse the decision on this? Jimmie Johnson said he is going to go talk to Mike Helton himself, because it was asked in the Drivers Meeting and it was explicitly stated that what Regan did was legal on the last lap. Supposedly there are numerous teams/drivers in the NASCAR hauler protesting NASCAR's decision. If the pressure gets strong enough, I have to wonder if they will reverse the decision. If teams that have no vested interest in the decision either way are going and protesting, then I think that says something.
I really don't think we've heard the last of this...

Due to the constant need for logging in John McElroy gave up, missing the PMs telling him when they were taping....

EDIT .....and seeing how this reply was submitted almost seven years before the thread started, he probably wasn’t looking for the PMs back then anyhow.....

Yeah but how fair would that be to Stewart, who finally "won" after finishing second so many times. How can you let the guy celebrate in victory lane, and then strip him of the win?
I feel Regan Smith did win, but it is too late now.

Nascar is going to give the win to Tony bologny cheese and macaroni because they are idiots!!!!!!!!!!! Regan Smith won that race, if the rolls were reversed where smith was infront and tony passed below the white line nascar would have let tony win, i mean come on they think he's such an amazing driver(nascar likes tony probation or not). Smith took tony to school he was just classy enough not to take tony out along with 10 other cars, Congats Regan you did an amazing job stayig out of trouble all day and doing what nascar said to do on the last lap drive your butt off and go for the win any way you can........
