Would this leave Penske as the only Dodge engine builder?
Ernie Elliott still builds Chip's doesn't he??? not sure...KRF
I believe he still does. I know there was talk of CGR closing that operation to save $$, but I don't believe they ever did.

If Ray's free, Tony could probably use him over at SHR.
Now THAT would be one heck of a cool thing...........but I doubt it would happen!
Hate to keep quoting him, but Dave Moody says Ray is still extremely loyal to the Dodge boys for all they did for him.
IF DODGE remains a viable entity, I see Ray possibly coming back to consult or work with one or all of the DODGE teams.
If Dodge and Chevy merge, it's all academic.

Latest news on the home front is CERBERUS is also entertaining other possibilities.

As for the GEM to Toyota rumor, isn't Kasy Kahne a Dodge-contract driver? Remember the big to-do over him leaving Ford to go to Dodge? Dodge itself has changed ownership, I wonder if Cerberus has made that sort of commitment null and void?

I'm sure his agent accounted for the possibility when drawing up his contracts.
Kasey Kahne will drive a Toyota if GEM does, just like Tony Stewart did for JGR. He could continue his commitments to Dodge in non-NASCAR venues like Tony Stewart did, though I think it's more likely that Kahne will move his professional services relationship to Toyota if his team makes the switch.

"Big to-do" !?!? LOL You mean the lawsuit ...
I hope that George Gillett (no "e" at the end) realizes that he will NEVER be top dog at toyota ... It will always be JGR (unless they leave) ... Look at MWR as they were trying to bill themselves as the flagship team last year ... But, they've been eclipsed big time ...
Right now ... GEM is "tied" with Penske as top dog at Dodge ... Even though Newman won the Daytona 500, Kasey's won 3 Cup races (including the All-Star race) this season ...
Someone needs to find Bob Nardelli ... He wants to stay in NASCAR ...

There seems to be some question as to whether Toyota is even looking for additional teams. While they haven't been hit as hard as the big three, they're still feeling an economic squeeze, and they give a lot of support to their teams.

By the same token, JGM has taken alot of te R&D;load off from TRD, and GEM would further reduce the amount R&D;that TRD does. Which in turn would make the racing effort more cost effective for Toyota.

Nothing new here but more of the same. Obviously there is substance to what Moody reported a week or so ago.
GEM on the verge..to Toyota? George Gillett [GEM], who with minority owner Ray Evernham (20%, perhaps to shrink to 10) has been Dodge’s anchor in NASCAR, is on the verge of making a deal to run Toyotas next season. That would put #9-Kasey Kahne, #19-Elliott Sadler and #10-Reed Sorensen in the Toyota camp.(Winston Salem Journal)
AND could an announcement of a Gillett/Bill Davis Racing [#22-Dave Blaney] deal be imminent?(Yahoo Sports)(10-20-2008)
