I understood it as being the set rules for next year, but I have been wrong before so whatever.
As for not letting them run or letting them have points, I say let them compete for points. The way I see it, IMSA is trying to get teams as Green as possible, made evident by the Green Challenge starting at Petit and starting its first full season next year. Teams are thus following the wishes of IMSA by going Hybrid. It doesn't make much sense, to me at least, to punish teams for doing exactly what you want them to do. You basically beg people to go green, and then they do and you say, "Thanks, now just go turn some laps for fun and make us look good." Your basically gonna kill the teams that attempt it because no one is gonna want to sponsor a car that has no chance of winning anything. The ACO can get away with implementing this rule, but since IMSA has, more or less, asked for this technology to become relevant within the series, I don't see how they can just turn around and tell them you can race but it will be worth nothing. Thats my thoughts on the situation anyways.

The Green Challenge has nothing to do with season championship points and those teams that are going the hybrid route know full and well what they're getting into. The series is still running to ACO rules and seeing how the first new hybrid car to race will be in the ALMS I don't see any teams being 'killed'.

^Okay, not killed, but hurt. As you said earlier, their may be other teams who come forward with a hybrid. My point is, who will want to sponsor a team that is never gonna be in the running no matter what? Financially, this could really hurt teams that aren't factory backed if they emerge.
And I understand that the Green Challenge has nothing to do with the overall championship points. What I'm saying is that by the creation of this and by publicly saying that you wish for teams to explore alternative fuels and have a small carbon footprint, you can't simply tell teams that achieve this, "Thanks for continuing to make us the Greenest form of racing. Now in return we aren't gonna let you have any shot of winning anything this year." I just feel with all this talk about how green they are with Ethanol and how they intend to become even greener; Why would you hurt teams that are helping you achieve this goal? Having a Hybrid go out and contend for race wins and championship positions is huge when you are trying to promote green racing and it could do a lot to bring more attention to the sport. I mean, here is something no other racing series has, a hybrid being competitive with some of the most technologically advanced cars on earth. You can't tell me that wont draw in a few fans, maybe more. It just doesn't make sense to me why you wouldn't score them. And I'm not saying they should be given free reign on the rules and be faster than everyone else. Heck, make the rules overly aggressive on them to start the season if your that scared of them doing too well, but let them at least have a chance to be a factor. I think it will make for some good racing and good publicity for the ALMS by having hybrids in the hunt.
