It was no bluff: New US SBK Series Announced

It looks like it will come down to the tracks and promoters as to which series has a chance to survive. MIC has already said their schedule will not include Daytona and Auto Club Speedway (ISC tracks) but will have 8 rounds between April and October on traditional road courses.

DMG on the other hand was expecting to have contracts in hand from the promoters so they could publish a schedule. Some tracks are balking and have not signed on yet, sounds like they are concerned over the loss of event sponsorship from the OEM's and how that money will be replaced. The problem for DMG is money talks and bull$h!t walks, what promoter is going to bank on Rogers promises of these new outside industry sponsors rushing in to fund these events?

You can't have a series if you don't have enough tracks. One of the other trump cards the MIC series will have is the potential to have double headers with MotoGP and WSBK. I am sure there won't be the issues of being second fiddle like DMG has.

It will be interesting to see where the Red Bull Rookies Cup will end up, if they haven't already signed a deal with DMG.

Wow. I was told the lawyering would take 6 to 8 months alone. I wonder if this is being rushed to counter dmg sending out contracts?
As an attorney well versed in motorsports and a club racer for the last 20 years, I have a few observations on this. It strikes me odd that many of the deadlines stated by the DMG, mainly in regards to posting schedules, have been blown. As I understood it, Monday was to be the deadline for race schedules from DMG. The fact of the matter is that the big 4 Japanese OEMs fund all of the professional motorcycle racing in the United States. They have done this for years. They fund the television (through advertising), they fund the track promoters through event sponsorship, and they fund the entire grid, directly or indirectly, at professional events. It has also occurred to me that the big 4 have funded the AMA for at least 20 years, either directly or indirectly. This is a classic example of someone tugging on Superman's cape. The very people who have created Superbike racing in the United States and have funded it for 20 years have basically been told to "pack sand" by the DMG. The promoters, who depend on OEM income to produce motorcycle racing in the United States, are now expected to rely on a group (DMG) who promises the blue-sky of corporate sponsorship to replace the OEM investment. This is the same group that has produced no corporate sponsorship to speak of thus far. Why do you suppose that these race venues hesitated when signing on with the DMG?

Thank you!! Finally, someone has summed the situation we have before us in a concise, non emotional manner. Thank you sir.

Reads as an accurate assessment to me, too. Edmondson is lining up all his non-industry sponsors - name ONE he has lined up so far. The promoters are concerned, the teams are concerned, even the privateers are concerned over the plan and DMG's heavy-handed management of the series. I don't blame them at all for lining up an alternate series and who knows? Maybe there is room for a professional superbike series and a professional production series in this country. If they don't go head-to-head on dates both could potentially work.

Uh, brilliant post, buckwheat...how can you possibly think this dmg farce wasn't going to wreck professional motorcycle racing? Back to your cave.

Right on the head Darby. I hope they have their contacts with WSBK set up so they can have some consistency with the rules and we will see Americans and the WSBK guys running together again. I hope they can entice Ducati and BMW and KTM to come and run also. Then DMG/AMA can run their little club series and no one will go. The AMA/DMG even booted WERA in place of CCS. I can't forgive them for that either.

I agree, these two series are a joke. Yamaha has just stated they will race with DMG. So the thoughts of having all the OEMS race in this new series is over. I think Ducati will race with DMG also. The Manufactures are not going to race together. They can't even support the current AMA series well. How many years did it take Kawi and Yamaha to get into the Superbike series? I don't like DMG but the manufactures are not together enough to run a spin off series. Your going to have two pathetic racing series this year.

Yamaha has left the door wide open on what they are going to do.At this point they are committed to DMG but listen to what Mccarty says and there is a bunch of outs in that commitment. If they stay with DMG,shame on them for continuing to cherry pick series so they can call themselves winners. The DMG series is tailor made for Ducati,or they can use them as a bargaining tool to get what they want from the new USSB series.Yamaha has become the fly in the ointment. For this to work,USSB cant roll out 6-8 factory bikes.Im guessing the Erions,Attacks, etc of the world are liking this because they are going to be the target of both series and could very well be the difference of which series makes it.I think the factories will do whatever it takes to keep them on board.
