It was no bluff: New US SBK Series Announced

Look, motorcycling will never be as big as NAPCAR in the US. At least not for another 20 years. If the gas crisis sticks, and the kids being born today grow up in an environment filled with scooter and bikes (think Europe), then it may have a shot. So yeah, 20 years at the earliest.

But that doesn't matter, as American motorcycle racing wasn't so bad off. We always talk about how the AMASBK riders earn a lot more money than WSBK or BSB riders... so why is that? The money is there. The US is still the top market in the world for bike makers. It isn't in dire need of help... only the racing was (arguably).

And who is to say that NASCAR is going to be a long lasting success? For those paying attention for a while, it has already peaked. And in the process of peaking (and admittedly that peak was pretty high), they allienated the hard core fans.

So as it makes its way down from the peak, it is risking a very serious decline. When the 'new fans' finally realize how boring it is to see the cars in circles and the same scripted results... they will leave. And the die hards will have already been gone, leaving them without a base to fall back on.
