Its openwheel racing.. You can run people off the track as long as you cant see them next to you. What Kimi did was legal, Its how drivers race in F1.
I hate that form of racing but its how its done. Race with no respect for your fellow racers.

Kimi was desperate to win, out of control and he forced Lewis off the circuit. Lewis ended up right where he started after letting Kimi repass. I'm a Massa fan but I would hate for Felipe to win the championship within the margin of these extra points.

This is just another example of the FIA bias against McLaren.

F1: Spa Penalty “Wrong,” Says Hamilton
Written by: SPEED Staff / GMM
09/07/2008 - 03:36 PM
Spa, Belgium

"I left him enough room, yet he picked up more pace going into the corner, and drove me as wide as he possibly could," said Hamilton, referring to the moment before he cut the Bus Stop chicane.

The championship leader, whose penalty cost him six points in the title fight with Ferrari's Felipe Massa, said he had to cut the chicane or hit Raikkonen.

He said he then obeyed a radio command to let the Finn re-pass him.

Hamilton explained: "I was accelerating so that I didn't lose too much ground, because I thought that would be unfair.

"I didn't want to wait until he'd flown past because we were still racing. Eventually I could see him accelerating and I knew, ‘OK, this is all right,’ so I began to accelerate..."

Hamilton's own quotes tell the story:
* He admits Kimi "...picked up more pace going into the corner...", so why, when faced with his options, did he not back off?
* This decision led to his next choice when he had to "...cut the chicane or hit Raikkonen...". No-brainer here.
* But, he kept "...accelerating so that I didn't lose too much ground, because I thought that would be unfair." He admits he sped on through the chicane and improperly justifies himself. "I didn't want to wait until he'd flown past because we were still racing.
Eventually I could see him accelerating and I knew, ‘OK, this is all right,’ so I began to accelerate...". It was unfair...to KIMI. This is where the advantage was gained and the FIA was wise to catch it and properly penalize Lewis.

Seriously, SCMX5Driver, I am not kidding. Kimi drove the same line he had many times before. Lewis was not in a "perfect position" or he would have pulled the pass off without incident. He could have... if he were patient around La Source, drafted Kimi up Eau Rouge, through Raidillion, and, based on his pursuit pace, finally putting a clean pass on him even before braking at Les Combes. I have no axe to grind with either driver, and I really could care less about Ferrari, so I feel I am being fairly objective here and intensely observant. It would have been more exciting and more SATISFYING to watch if it played out clean no matter the victor. Lewis' cheating, intentional or not, ended up cheating us all.

NOTE TO FORUM ADMIN: How did SCMX5Driver's reply to my post get posted with my quote the night before I wrote it? Time warp?

I've been a McLaren and Kimi fan for many years. Last season's 3 man battle was thrilling, especially with the outcome. I was very impressed with Hamilton's skills in bulletproof silver. I liked him; even as the spy drama unfolded around him he seemed to be a pleasant and peaceful guy, focused on the task ahead and the potential prize. This season Lewis' vision looks to be a bit more blurred with ambition. And that is exactly what caused the incident at Spa. Kimi's block was clearly legal. Lewis took advantage of the off, continuing to accelerate even though he KNEW he could not legally complete the pass, PLANNING to use the gain to slip closer into Kimi's draft after cleverly conceding the move. He stated he was still racing and waited for the team to radio orders to give up the position[?]. Unfortunately for Kimi, he allowed himself to be obviously infuriated [contrary to his "Ice Man" moniker]. With his team position, his record-equalling win and much needed points all at stake, Kimi seemed to slip into a desperate/vindictive mode. It proved to be his undoing. The ruling was absolutely fair, yet I come away unhappy with both drivers AND the race I was so elated watching until one unrealistic and over-ambitious pass.

I've never been a Ferrari [or Schumacher-arrogant, lack of integrity, amazing talent] fan, yet I've always liked Massa. "Things" seem to be falling in favor for a guy I think deserves the Championship for all his professionalism, patience playing 2nd and always evolving his skills. Perhaps he'll achieve it before he ends up like poor old Barrichello, his highly-principled, likable and shunted-aside countryman. Then Kimi can have next season, emulating his great fellow "Flying Finn", Mika Hakkinen, with split titles. Lewis needs to meditate a little more on integrity before he deserves the top step.
