Watching the prerace show right now, and Wendy V keeps talking about the standings going into the chase being affected by drivers having more 2nd place finishes. We thought only wins mattered -- are 2nd place finishes used as tie-breakers? Where could we find the "official" rules for how the standings going into the chase are determined? The NASCAR web page only has a very high-level description.

Second place finishes would be used as a tie breaker for lining up the standings before the Chase. Since a few drivers have one win, and others have 0, their position in the standings would be determined by who has more second place finishes. If there's ties there, they'd move down to third place finishes, and so on.

It's pretty meaningless though, since they'll all still have the same number of points going into New Hampshire

^^^ It matters if qualifying rains out at Loudon. After that, it doesn't.

Yes, that's the conclusion I came to after seeing the first response.

Thanks!
