For some reason I feel there's not much hype around the last round of the Indycar season. Its like everyone felt the end of the season was at Belle Isle so why watch Chicagoland?

Anyways I'm glad Briscoe won pole which matches perfectly to the season Ryan is having. After rumors of replacing Briscoe earlier in the season because he didn't show any positive results, Ryan came back strong on both ovals and road courses. He hasn't show the consistency of Helio but he's getting there and with Penske backing him up there's nowhere to go but up.

Speaking of Helio its sad how his season is ending with poor judgment in my opinion on his and his team's part and being DNQ from qualifying.

Did I also mention Roth finished 9th in qualifying...yeah wowed me too.

The offical results links of qualifying.. http://www.indycar.com/news/2008/chicago/2008_ics_chicago_starting_grid.pdf

Some interesting theories put forward by the radio crew this session...

a)the series has lost fans by running on road courses.

b)if alms cars can pass at detroit and indycars cannot, it must be a problem with the track.

c)adding optional sections to road courses might be a good thing.

It's nice to hear them talk about actual issues instead of all of the fluff, we hear from the tv crew.

Apparently, all these new sponsors have not heard about the new TV package.

They also mentioned that the idea of having green/white/checkered finishes is being talked about.

I agree the radio crew is generally better, more intelligent and in depth... I happened to pick out a bunch of things they brought up right at once that I didn't particularly agree with, but they aren't always like that... and they did say eventually that they like having the mix of courses, it tends to makes the indycar championship represent the most solid overall driver - which is a big part of what attracts me about it.

I hope the GWC discussion will end at just that, discussion. I'm open to a lot of ideas to 'spice things up' but G/W/C is the IMO pretty much the worst addition to racing in history. If it ends under yellow it ends under yellow, that's racing. I can't wait to watch the "Indianapolis 500 or 505 or 510 or 515 or until we can get 2 clear laps to finish under green". Boy doesn't that sound like fun. They were talking about maybe only doing it once and then if it fails just ending under yellow, but that's basically the worst of both worlds.

Agreed

Including Long Beach this year, only three of 17 races haven't ended under green and one of those was Nashville, where the race was called because of rain and since 2005, only 11 of 65 races haven't ended under green, so it's not like this is something that you see 5-7 times a year, maybe 2-3 times a year, tops.
