Actually, for me they were spot-on. I made up a quick mental list of ten or twenty real rolling monstrosities, and they had them all. While some of their choices may offend that particulr car's proponents, by and large they did a creditable job. Likewise their "100 Most Beautiful Cars" list. All of my favorites were there.

What a ghastly read! Not too many cars on that list I could defend.

But.

Why doesn't it surprise me to see a newspaper from Europe have an American car at #1 Ugliest?

....when that Fiat at #2 is 134365606813 times uglier.

Half of those cars deserve to be on that list....and the other half don't.

Note to ALL MEDIA OUTLETS....NO MORE "TOP 100" LISTS!

I've hated the Boxter from day one, I feel vindicated !!

To be fair, Ferrari has turned out a couple of goofy looking cars that belong on that list, and I'm surprised that Maserati wasn't represented...

Can't argue with the top 3. Can argue with some of the rest of the list, but they got #1 for sure.

And, hey, I like "Top 10/25/50/100" lists...especially the PC World "Worst All Time" lists...a lot of nostalgic bad computing that is fascinating to me.

The Ferrari 275 GTB "wasn't especially admired or considered good-looking when it was new, but is now" ?

Wow, that's harsh. It isn't my favorite Ferrari either, and nearly all early Ferraris are more treasured now than they originally were - but I think it would be hard to make a case that the car wasn't pretty highly thought of from day one.

I wasn't alive in the 50's. Just going on what I've heard.

True on the Italian cars...no doubt.

But, can you say, in all honesty, that the Boxster is ugly? Maybe a little bland or sterile, but ugly? What's even more interesting is that the Cayman is very, very good looking...funny.

One of the others that shouldn't be on the list is the Bugeye Sprite...sure, the headlights (a last minute change by the bean counters when they discovered how much pop up lights were going to cost) are awkward, but ugly? Not in BRG with a set of minilites!

Also, the Escalade was a questionable choice. I can't stand them (like all "luxury" SUV poser mobiles, they just don't appeal to me), but the basic design doesn't deserve to be called ugly...

Many of the other choices were absolutely on target, though.

I'd say about 49% of those cars are tuly ugly, 49% are merely plain or bland, and 2% of the choices were completely out to lunch because they're bloody marvelous. Bug Eye Sprite comes to mind as a car that doesn't belong anywhere near that list. It may not be pretty, but it's pleasing.

And how can a list of 100 ugliest cars have not a single representative from Virgil Exner's pen?

The Plymouth Prowler surely deserved a slot on this list.

And the 1960 Valiant/Lancer.

Which list? The Ugly 100 or cars 'not considered attractive when originally produced but are now?" IMHO Prowler looked cool, but was not what it appeared to be. The Valiant on the other hand, is somehow even uglier in 2008 than it was in 1972 when my Dad had one, and it was the fugliest thing I had ever seen back then.

Cars somehow more attractive now than then.

Karmann-Ghia
Cosworth Vega
Ford Capri
Datsun 510

And from alot of my SoCal friends 1980s Regal/Cutlass.

Oh, that was hugely entertaining...

I'm glad somebody agrees with me about the BMW 1-Series, but it should have cracked the top 10.

The Aztek, however, deserves to be #1. Richly deserves it.

I'm with y'all about the Boxster, though. True, the car has never excited me visually... But ugly? No. Bland and lumpy, maybe, but not ugly. (On the other hand, I love the Cayman.)
