Include the purpose of motorsport through history, From primary proving ground to primary entertainment. (Up to the entertainment factor over technological advances)

History of sanctioning bodies as a whole - AAA, USAC, NHRA, etc.

Hi Jade, I would touch on the history of racing briefly in class,(they used to race on board tracks in the twentys, drive their open wheel cars to and from the races, build their cars themselves etc) then give them really good books to read/study for home work. Two that come to mind are great, Gentlemen, Start Your Engines by Wilbur Shaw (I have that one,I think thats where that came from) and Faster by Jackie Stewart. Those two would bring you up to fairly modern times. After that any one of the later books would be good. Another example directly related to auto racing from a completely different angle is Rapid Response by Dr Stephen Olvey, it's amazing how they saved lives and hurt when they didn't. These are all good reads and they are real and relevent.

As for Sports Marketing I don't have a clue. I have talked with many people about Motorsports Marketing and the benefits. Trouble is their eyes glaze over or their check book slams shut. So now I'm paying for racing myself.
