Will ALMS P2 be faster than Indycar before the Dallaras are retired?

Right now the ALMS Prototypes (I think P2) are a about a second slower on the pole lap at Bell Isle than Indycar. Given that the IndyCar series is going to stay with the Dallara for 2 more years, will the ALMS cars become faster road series race cars before Indycar retires their current tubs?

I think this is very important for the prestige on Indycar. These cars were designed for Indy. They look pathetic when changing direction. They need more HP to drop lap times. I noticed the Acura running between 10-11000 rpm. Is it the same engine? If so, does the Acura have more power? Can that be adopted to Indycar?

no, they won't. development will essentially end after this year as acura will move into LMP1. all their development resources will concentrate on the LMP1, and the LMP2 will be left as is. porsche will not need to develop their car against privateers, and so the RS Spyder will also plateau (and porsche may come up to LMP1 as well). so no, tha won't happen...

the acura engine has around 80-100hp less than the honda motor used in indycar...

All I know is that the new car can't come soon enough. The Dallera is not only a wierd looking car, it was obsolete from the start. Ugh, I really have a hard time getting into Indycar when the car is a second rate spec. It makes the series second rate. And we have at least another year of this. And....If they are going to delay the intro of a new spec to 2011 just so it can coincide with the 100th I-500... that's just about the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

I know what you mean about being fugly, they were showing the old reynard that Helio won in at detriot talk about a good looking car, then the next screen was the god awful looking dallara. P2 chassis is lighter if I am not mistaken, the engine is also regulated in ALMS, the areo package in the P2 is awesome, thats how it beats the p1's.

True, but I bet Penske, Ganassi and AGR are happy with the current spec and will likely influence any decision. A new car can't come soon enough. The interest simply isn't there based on unified ratings/attendance.

Besides, it's all about Indy, isn't it?

I am almost 100% positive that at Mid-Ohio, The De Ferran Team had posted times that were faster than the Indy Cars.

P2's are 1760 lbs in the ALMS, and Indycars around 1,600 lbs for road courses. There are a lot less regulations concerning engines in LMP2 than Indycar. The LMP2 cars also have less HP than Indycars, which says a lot about the Dallara chassis...
