The official IndyCar website has a poll asking fans how they feel about standing starts for road/street courses in 2009. It is on the bottom right hand side.

IndyCar.com

As of August 28th at 7:15 PM (EST): it is 70% in approval of standing starts and 30% against.

disclaimer: This is FYI only and is not a scientific poll... but does reflect that IndyCar is likely considering such a change for 2009 and beyond.

This looks like the hot button flash where on person will run out and vote on several IP addys. The zealots on whichever side is less popular will find a way to make noise. Internet polls are curiosities, and pretty much useless. But I'll give it a try---on one IP address and one machine.

EDIT--2 pages of posts (40 maybe?) and one guy has 150 some negative points. Gee, where are all the voters?

I wasted 2 minutes of my life on that one.

I posted a comment, probably the guys who didn't have enough thought on standing starts but just vote for Standing Starts may hit the red points button on certain people like me.

That poll is subject to be overrated in less than 48 hours.

You can empty out your cookies, cache and stuff on your browser to vote again overtime. That's another way I managed to overrate some of the Indycar's Design-It Artwork pages, that can be easily done in another way Dopey. LOL

I agree wholeheartedly. Rolling starts on roads tend to be a mess; and I can't even Imagine a Standing start for an oval!

The only oval where I could see a standing start working is Indy but no way that happens.

Ovals should stay as rolling starts...Road and Street bring on the the 5 lights and then watxh the cars launch off the grid and into turn 1

Oh I agree, bmw_williams. I didn't mean to suggest that they should do that on ovals.

If they got the rolling starts to actually stay in rows I don't see the problem with keeping them.
The starts at Infineon and Watkins Glen this year were both fairly clean.
