Bill was the best. Lisp and all. His energy, good spirit and talent for calling races has not been matched in the AMA for road racing.

Please DO NOT put Larry Maiers back on the air. He talks to the audience as if we don't know anything about racing. I remember him with Dave Despain doing Supercross in the early 90's and telling us what was about to happen before it actually happened (because the show was taped). He may know alot about racing, but he's not a good commentator.

Let me explain
I started this thread just to mock "grandprix"'s thread about Sadowski.

Yes, but like all threads we're wandering off on various pointless tangents.

Still I liked Larry's style in road racing. I didn't get the "talking down to" feeling. He talked a lot to the racers and tried to bring a bit of schtick into his broadcast. The gags unusually didn't work which was funnier than if they had.

Keep your wheels on the ground and your feet on the pegs.
He was a bike guy, no doubt. He is in the hall of fame: http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/halloffame/hofbiopage.asp?id=101
