Paul Newman's legacy will live on forever.
One day it may even leak out what an influence PLN had on getting Indy Car back together as well.
Paul was of course a strong stalwart for CC, however when the chips came down he was one of the first to point others to what was the right direction for AOWR and that was to merge.
At that stage he supported what he felt was the best for the sport, be it in his own best interest or not.
One of the greatest actors of our time and no doubt, one of the great racers of our time as well, despite starting at such a late age.
But putting the sport ahead of his personal interest and pride...
That's one hell of a man.

I have pictures of my dad, PLN, Bob Sharp, Bob Tullius and John McComb (and Rick Hilton of all people) at various tracks in the late 60's and early 70's.
Mr Sharp and British Leyland backed G44 were in full swing and changing the face of "professional" motor-sport.
Great guy, God speed!

WIth over 25,000 people attending, in a procession a mile long, the coffin was placed on a car chassis which was pushed by Alberto Ascari, Luigi Villoresi and Juan Manuel Fangio.

Very sad in a way, but I am so glad he was able to enjoy this "last lap" of Lime Rock.
Paul is going out in style, with a lot of class, as always.
Racing, and society in general, will be much poorer without him.
Unfortunately, I don't see anyone to fill his shoes.
I absolutely agree. Class act in every regard.

Wow that brings back memories! The red white and blue 76 Datsun of PLN and the white with green stripes 44 XKE of Tullius. My two favorite cars.
Paul was probably the most down to earth person in the entire paddock. When he would make an SCCA MARRS race it was always a special treat. He always had time to talk with my dad (chief starter), and me. Of course my mom was always gaga over him!
Anyways, this is so cool that he got this chance to put in some final laps. It's not often you get to go out on your own terms.
But more than a racer or actor, I hope he is mostly remembered as a humanitarian. What he has done for sick kids is truly inspirational.

I'm happy that PLN got in another session of hot laps, but very sorry for the circumstances. I hope that he had fun. His life and long lasting marriage are examples of what today's "Hollywood celebrities" should be trying to emulate.

The world is set to lose a great man that will be next to impossible to replace. It will be a very long time before the world sees another Paul Newman.
Paul, thank you for everything you have done, accomplished and assisted in helping those that truly needed help. My only regret is never getting the chance to meet you. Thank you again.

Not to step on anybody sentimental about track names, but maybe they should rename Lime Rock (or another track) after him someday. I think that has a nice ring to it: "Paul Newman Race Park"

At the least a corner or two... hope some of the folks at Hole in the Wall Gang help him in these trying times...
A class act all the way- was lucky enough to run into him several times over the years at the races.
