If you're driving with any kind of sense at all, that shouldn't be an issue. The only reason they "have" to put things like ESC, ABS, and TPMS on cars is because the general driving public are morons who need to be babysat.

If that's the case, why do race teams use these systems? Are F1 drivers morons that need to be babysat?

I think you just answered your own question. cool grin

Back in 1986 my dad bought a Ford Bronco II, now that was definitely a "tippy" SUV! First thing he said to me after bringing it home was "it's not your Mustang so don't go around corners fast." He kept it for 22 years never gave him any problems and no rollovers!

My own preference is to teach people to drive better rather than rely on technology to save us, but the government disagrees.

BTW, Most race cars DON"T have ESC or ABS (Nascar, WOO Sprints, ASA, ARCA, any firt cars), go to the local dirt track sometime. Those guys are REAL race car drivers.

Isn't F1 running without traction control and driver aids this year?

For the most part, yes. The rules ban "electonic driver aids", but if you put levers, switches, and paddles in and let the driver control the amount of power he can apply, it's legal. It just can't be automatic.

Yeah, they even have a mechanical launch control.

I just couldn't resist a smartass answer to any sentence containing the words "babysat" and "F1 drivers". cheese

Prices of new cars will go up. Why not impose restrictions on horsepower and weight? Why do we need to have 250+ hp cars and SUVs be the standard? This just encourages poor driving habits. I am all for fun cars (own 350Z), but do i drive it fast everywhere I go. No? Do I see people in luxury cars and SUVs driving fast in areas they should not? Yes. Media is partially to blame for this trend as they highlight the fast and expensive and call most everything else garbage. This leads to people wanting more than they can handle and trying to prove what they have is better than reviewed. I hate to say it but everyone should have a Reliant K Car Wagon governed to 70 mph. If you want a sporty car, paint it red.

Got it. REAL drivers in cars that still use 1962 technology don't use it. Meanwhile the phony drivers in modern cars do. gulp

Yup, that's right. Any monkey can drive a car that does most of the work for you. Takes a real driver to run one that you actually have to think about what you're doing.
And what's wrong with 1962 technology? I drive a truck with old technology every day (1955 technology, to be exact), don't need any of that electronic crap on it to drive it.
My daily driver, and the source of my screen name.

Hey I'm about driver skill being paramount as anyone else, but when a kid runs in front of my car on my street, or a wolf runs in front of me on the highway, or I have to drive my child to hospital in a snowstorm (all of which have happened to me), then I'm glad my car is equipped with ABS and ESC.
