Standard Def quality down the tubes?

Unfortunately I only have access to standard definition Speed through digital cable. For my Sony 32" CRT it was quite acceptable up until the last few months when I've noticed horrible interlacing\aliasing(jaggies) and some sort of shimmer\brightness. It's so bad my wife even noticed it. It's only on the live race broadcast though so I'm fairly certain it's a Speed (not a provider)issue. Anyone else notice this? Is this a product of some kind of compromise with HD broadcasting. I notice the in-car shots look a lot smoother (like I'd expect them to look). I would guess that these cams are not HD?

Yep, I've noticed it as well. It's almost unwatchable. I'm very happy with my old fashioned tube TV and haven't the space, the money, or any intention switching to HD.

This is just another nail in the coffin for Speed at my house. I only watch two shoes regularly anyway, and one of them, The Speed Report, is now little more than Entertainment Tonight with a racing twist. Speed wastes a half hour of my time every week. Cut the fluff and the crap, and the show could be over and done with in thirty minutes.

Wind Tunnel is now the only show worth watching.

Sorry for the rant.

There was a big difference in quality between Speed and TSN for F1 this weekend.

Fortunately, Patrick did not have a towel in her possession or the confrontation could have deteriorated into one of the great towel-offs in sports history.  LOL

yup...it was really noticeable in during the ALMS broadcasts today

the in-car and interview shoots were great, but the external view of the cars are the track was TERRIBLE...the interlacing jaggedness makes it look like I'm watching YouTube not proffesional broadcast TV

Fortunately, all of the advertisements are of decent quality! It's just when they go to a race that things go down the tube. Some sort of problem converting the feed from the HD cams to the SD broadcast?

This was, without reservation, the most appalling quality yet! Muted audio and the worst, almost unwatchable, video feed yet for SD users! My friend has VHS tapes af CART races from the early eighties that look better than this. I'm going to attach a panorama he put together from my HTPC. Note the relatively satifactory quality of the cemter in-car shot flanked by the horrendous track shots. UGHH!
