I thought it might have been Le Mans. But I don't know. I don't think it should have been banned as Le Mans anyway is very much a technology series. That is, it promotes development of the tech rather than just providing entertainment like NASCAR.

SCCA Trans Am comes to mind, but may not be what you're referring to. The Quattros ran in and won the championship in 1988 with Hurley Haywood at the wheel, with Walter Rorhl and Hans Stuck sharing a sister car.
This is an article on the beginnings of that program:

British Touring Cars. Walked the championship (IIRC with Frank Biela) They raced in non quattro model for a year or so after that.

Audi is currently racing in the DTM(German Touring Cars Masters) with its factory A4s against their rivals from Daimler Mercedes. You know that Audi race in the SCCA WC Touring Car division for the last few years until they withdrew from the series.

The German Touring Cars (DTM) are purposebuilt race-cars, like the Australian Super Touring Cars. They are all front-engined, rear-wheel drive: The Audis don't run AWD even though Mercedes makes AWD cars, too.
The Audi Quattros were very effective in both the Speed GT and Touring Car series, especially during those standing starts and particularly in bad weather. I don't think that either show banned them but successful cars get weight added to them (and the Quattros were already heavier than 2WD cars) and eventually Audi withdrew. The Championship crew from Florida went on to successfully campaign R8 LMP1 roadsters.

What about Le Mans now? Does the R10 have quattro? That would answer that. Wikipedia doesn't have that information. The Audi motorsports website had nothing (that worked) on the actual car.

Lol. If Audi was running the R10 with AWD, IMSA wouldn't even need to run the races, just hand the 1st place overall to Audi and run the race for 2nd place. The P1 cars do no run AWD. Strictly RWD only. Though, I like to idea of how much faster they would run with AWD compared to contemporary P1's.

AWD/4WD is prohibited by the ACO, so no, the Audi R10, nor the Audi R8 are/were quattro. The ruling had nothing to do with Audi.
British Touring Cars, IMSA and Trans Am all introduced rules to eliminate or reduce the competitiveness of the Quattro system, due to Audi success in those series.
