I wish I lived down there, Zoot. I'd love to ride an underpowered, clapped out POS for free. One of the most fun, and most annoying races I ever rode was on a borrowed FZ 600. It was crashed and crushed (tank held about 2.5 gallons) and tired, but it was light, it handled, and stopped really well. After blowing through 2/3rds of the pack from a last place start (reg. just before it shut down) I got behind an F2 and altough I passed him, sometimes more than once a lap, he kept getting by on the streight. He nipped me at the line and dropped me to 8th place. Frustrating but fun. Yeah, I'd take you up on that...and love it. Some people just don't appreciate a good thing.
The weird thing is I hadn't heard or thought about a Bandit 400 in years. Zoot talked about it and there was one in the parking lot at work last night! It was beat up too, in a sexy sort of way. I also had an FZ 600. It had a bad habit of dieing on the frwy. Five lanes of traffic on the 91 in Riverside was not fun. Later I figured out it had a weak stator and would sometimes run the battery down.

you guys wouldn't believe how much fun this bike is (obviously some of you do know). it handles amazingly well for a 16 yr old bike with stock suspension. and yes, it has duct tape on it... the entire tail section actually.
ljb, t1 is a 140mph corner, we just don't let off

. i'm not looking forward to Ty catching my 20 feet before turn in but i'll survive

Zoot you're wrong here - this guy is not a loser because he's looking a gift horse in the mouth. He's a total loser cause he's passing on a chance to flog the wee out of a total steamy horse pile.
If you called and said you had a new professionally prepped GSXR750 mine for the taking, I would pass but if you said you had a 16 yr old battled scarred fugly GSXR clapper I'd be there in a minute. The best things about old beat mules are
A. you just don't care what happens to them so you ride them like a fiend
B. no one expects you to do well, so every rider you pass is just devasted that that old hunk of garbage went by.
C. even if you finish 38th out of 60 bikes there's 22 guy's shaking their head trying to figure out how that old hunk of poo finished ahead of them.
D. You just can help but laugh yourself silly riding the things.
I almost bought one of those bandits when they were new.....fun bike.

on the head, TG, nail on the head. i bought my half of the bike for $300. we put tires on it. that's the extent of the value at this point. we also have an entire second bike short the wheels and tank so we have another clutch cover and plates. we had just put clubman bars on it when he crashed it so we can go back to the old ones. i think our only expense may be that we have to put some sort of lower fairing on it for the endurance and turkey baster lowers are now outlawed

. i have spies' old 125 lower i thought about cutting up to fit but it may be wore work than i want so we may buy something. i've seen mx fenders used on motards but i'm not sure it holds enough for an i4.
yes, there's nothing like racing a bike you can affors to put in the dumpster when you're finished with
