Anyone going to watch? Anyone going? I'd flag for it, but I can't deal with the nascar BS (which admittedly is light on Thursday and Friday...but I didn't get my nascar badge either), plus I have too much work to take off this week..
The Friday race is fun for the flaggers, because its the only time they get to ply their craft in the traditional sense all weekend, and the race to dusk is fun, especially if there is a chance of rain. The nascar fans, hardly notice it. Most of them are just arriving and cracking their first six pack.
I'll be watching but this may be my least favorite race of the season. Short race, short course, NASCAR weekend.
I wish they would use the long course and give the napcar fans a dose of what they are missing when the cabs race. There will be plenty of course workers to cover the long course...god knows every firemen on the eastern seaboard will be there...I guess the problem would be shifting personel to the boot between napcar and GA sessions..
I don't mind using the short course. There's still the six hours on the long course; the short course is still 2.45mi long, which is on par with most of the other tracks on the schedule; and IIRC the fastest track on the schedule (by lap mph), contributing to the diversity of the schedule. A two-hour race duration also didn't seem to hurt Montreal that badly.

Yeah...but without the boot...its like a nascar run sportscar race...
I would like to go but since you can't buy a ticket for just Friday I'll pass...I have no interest in those rolling billboards they'll be racing there Sat & Sun.
Seems to be a theme developing here. I'll certainly be watching on TV too, but I can't see paying more than twice the price to watch half the cars racing on 2/3 of the track for 1/3 of the time. If I was more of a fan of the support races running on saturday and sunday, maybe. Still it's nice to kick off the weekend with some prime-time --albeit not live-- racing again... hope my schedule works out to let me watch it 'TV live.'

This is an okay NASCAR weekend because this is a road race. Grand-Am's visit here should be an interesting one. I'll be sure to watch this race if I get a chance.
Hands down, maybe the most memorable moment at Watkins Glen for this series was that wreck-fest in which as many as nine cars slammed into the same tire barrier. Some cars even got whacked while already whacked. Let's hope this doesn't happen again! I think it was in 2004 that this wreck party began.

I will also never forget seeing the France kid out of his car arguing with another driver...while cars were still slamming into the pile -up...what an idiot.
Just in case some reading this thread didn't see that incident: it had been raining in the days before the race so the ground was already saturated, and when some more rain hit during the race the last turn became a skating rink. One lap everything was fine on that turn and the next there was no grip. In the background of the TV footage you could see a car spinning just trying to get into the pits.
