They can't build a tire.

This is unbelievable. Even the right rears coming off, are down to the cords in roughly 20 laps, if they haven't exploded first, ala JPM's. downer

Nascar is basically all Goodyear really races, I think.

Hoosier dominates the short tracks across the US. Nascar needs to bring at least Hoosier back in and if Goodyear threatens to leave again let them go --- that vacuum can filled in about an hour or two

NASCAR's ill advised no-testing policy is really the cause of the boondoggle at Indy.
The teams that have the funds to test are still doing just as much testing at non cup tracks so who is saving the money the ban was intended to save?

Goodyear does not want a tire war. They want to be the exclusive tire supplier or they will not participate.
Just compare OE or the mass-market tires they produce against competitive brands and you will see huge differences in quality.

Can't Nascar get another tire sponsor, like Hoosier or Cooper? Or do they make racing tires. I guess Nascar has to use the sponsor with the most money, huh?

it's not about the money- it's more about the supplier with the capacity to provide enough tires for all three series for all functions in that series, i.e. testing, practices, qualifying, and racing.

Hoosier opted out of bidding once before because they couldn't meet the number demands NASCAR made. I've never even heard a whisper about Cooper being a potential supplier. I doubt they could meet the demand either.

The dates on the listed posts are erroneous....those posts were actually made at the time of the July 2008 event....The SPEED Forums had some technical glitches at that time and some wild dates were applied to various posts....those dates were from 2001....a time when the SPEED Forums did not exist.

but nascar and goodyear are still in the same rut that they've been in since before 2001.

The problem is Goodyear does very little testing to put a better product on the track. With all the money paid to NASCAR to prevent competition from another tire company Goodyear isn't forced to make a better tire. Saying that, NASCAR is the sanctioning body so everything on the track is signed off on by them.

fixed it for ya When will all these new fans understand the part that TIRE WARS KILL DRIVERS. and I don't hear Hoosier, Dunlop, Bridgestone, Pirelli, Michelin banging on the door to supply tires for 200MPH lead like bricks.
This year has proven the difficulty of putting RELIABLE AND FAST (they MUST go together) tires on this car.
