Did anyone hear the locker room story from David Hobbs that Varsha alluded to several times?

I did not hear it discussed...though I was interested to hear it (kinda like the sneaking out of the bathroom window at the Tip Top Bar in Monaco story).

Help?

Sorry we didn't get to it; my timing was impeccable in posing the question just as Lewis Hamilton hit the pitlane in Hockenheim. The short version is that Hobbo was given the key to his locker in the 'invited drivers' lounge at Goodwood, with very specific instructions not to lose it. He promptly did exactly that, requiring an embarrassed confession to the young lady behind the counter, a phone call to some distant person who had the master key ring, etc, etc. As DH dressed for the formal dinner he stuck his hand in his blazer pocket, and presto! The aforementioned key.

Thank you Bob, your explanation was far clearer than the one I tried to make under a similar post in the F1 General category.

I heard the remarks on Wind Tunnel and tried to describe the story as I understood it...you did a FAR BETTER job, I guess that's why your a journalist and I'm just a fan.

Thank you!!

As I understand the story (I'm probably partly right...anyway), in his younger days DH was in Monaco and a favorite watering hole there is the Tip Top Bar (which I have had the pleasure of visiting).

I believe that the story is that a rather large tab was run up and DH and his wife (?) sneaked out of the bathroom window to avoid the bill...again, that's how I think the story goes.

Hopefully someone can correct/elaborate who may know the story better.

Thanks Bob, for the answer. I was fortunate to catch Hobbs on Wind Tunnel, and hear it from the Man himself, as well.

Say, Bob, if it's not a big deal, I was wondering why you weren't at Le Mans and if possible, the dirt on why Hobbs was so merciless in ribbing you about it beforehand at the Canadian GP?

Thanks for all the years of great commentary and work (play?) with Hobbs and the rest of the gang.

If I remember correctly, one Jim Clark was part of the Hobbs' party?

the story was funny enough to begin with.
but the telling of it by hobbs himself made it hilarious.
could you just see the sheepish look on his face as he reached into his pocket and, "well, waduya know, lookee here".

that guy could probably crack up everyone in a restaraunt with him, just by reading the menu outloud !!

Pretty much right, though Jimmy Clark was also with them if I am remembering the story correctly.
