Hi Guys,

I just noticed the ticketsales starting up for the first race of the Euroleague Formula.
The superleague formula is based upon the fact that in this case the mostly european soccer audience is also more and more interested in motorsports, as motorsports are the nr 1 growing sports across the european continent with audience growing on a weekly bases. Now dont run away, you silly americans, in this case the names could have easily been yankees, redsox, cowboys or lakers.

The teams that are going to participate so far are:
AC Milan
Al-Ain FC
Anderlecht
Borussia Dortmund
Corinthians
FC Basel
Flamengo
Galatasaray SK
PSV Eindhoven
Rangers FC
Sevilla FC
FC Porto
Olympiacos

The teams are all signing big drivers with the likes of Robert Doornbos now for Ac Milan.
Support will be done by seperate racing teams that will all support 2 club cars.
Scuderia play (most former minardi f1 ppl) wil be one of those supporting teams.
With newly developed panoz cars, this series should be a cool addition to the already growing open wheel craze going on in the rest of the world.

The series opener will take place at Donnington park on sunday the 31st of august, its promissing to be a nice opener. This track has recently been added to the f1 list and is already a classic circuit in the motogp, fia gt and other series. What is also new about this series and quite remarkable is that they run the same track twice on sunday, with the second one going into the other direction. Both races will last for 50 minutes.

more about the series here:

As there will be live broadcasts of this all over europe and south america and the races will always be ending before 10am est, will speedtv fit this into their schedule?
It shouldnt clash with any other series and should especially have a following under latino and growing soccer audiences next to race fans....

None of the teams in those leagues have signed up for a car yet but rumours are more will be added.
The costs shouldnt be high as teams like Anderlecht and Fc Basel arent to well known for its budgets.

The cars i forgot all about in my opening post.
750HP V-12 Panoz cars...

i jus saw this clip and the sound and looks are better compared to the dallara indy cars.

*I have no other info on North/south American coverage only Europe & the Mid East

UK: Setanta Sports
Spain & Andorra: Cuatro
Italy: Sky Italia
Portugal: TVI
Brazil: SporTV Globo
France: Direct 8
Holland: RTL
Greece: Alpha TV
Cyprus: MiVision
Turkey: Show TV
UAE & Middle East countries: Abu Dhabi Sport

For all the remaining European countries, Eurosport 2, will provide live coverage of the race weekend.

*Great to see several ex Champ Car drivers competing, Doornbos, Philippe, Gommendy, Dalziel, along side some of the European based series drivers from GP2. A good line up.

still not overly sure of the whole concept, not sure who they are marketing this at, me thinks the football fans rather than the racing ones.

I as a race 'fan' tend to support my drivers in whatever series they race.. however, if 'my' driver is racing for a footy team that is not 'my' team.. hellooooo conflict of interest! smile

There were several 'teething' reliability issues at Donington on the Saturday, these were seemingly addressed by Sunday. They seriously need to up the marketing & promotion if they want to improve spectator numbers.. oh & maybe don't schedule races up against football games! Both English Prem clubs represented in SLF had matches on Sunday, so a conflict for fans, who I could see opted for the football rather than attending the race.

But hey, it was the first event. The series plan to expand to 11 races next year & 12 after that, so they are looking long term. Europeans (& South Americans) love OW racing & football so if its going to get an initial foothold, it will be on the continent, were there is already a buzz about SLF on the terraces.

Is NASCAR dead? Or even terminally ill? Or even in ICU? Are they even sick? Oh, and Pinks; Pass Time; Chop, Cut, Rebuild; are they having health problems?
