I think it's interesting and very plausible as he isn't really leaving:
quote "To do that, he has decided to secure the services of a professional manager, who can handle his financial and public image affairs, freeing his father from that task and leaving him responsible solely of the sporting side"
Dad's and Lewis' inexperience with the dealings of the press and public imagine can use some professional help, as the two of them haven't done a very good job at it. Most F1 drivers and pro drivers in general have a professional press/public imagine person employed. Nothing usual about this annoucement at all and infact I'm suprised he's gone this long in F1 without one.
