Interesting story I came across....

Tuesday, 08 July 2008
According to Spanish site marca.com Lewis Hamilton may be taking on Senna's old manager Julian Jakobi.
"The British driver and his inner circle of people have realized his image is beginning to become a gold mine, and they want to exploit it fully. Lewis is already Reebok's and Pepsi's image, contracts secured by his father, but he wants more. In fact, the plan is to turn him into the new Beckham using his public image.

To do that, he has decided to secure the services of a professional manager, who can handle his financial and public image affairs, freeing his father from that task and leaving him responsible solely of the sporting side. The chosen one is one of the circus' most influential people. It's Julian Jakobi, one of the most sought-after managers and who has already worked with people such as Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, or Juan Pablo Montoya, to whom he secured multi-million dollar advertising contracts.

In this way, Hamilton also distances himself from Ron Dennis in some aspects. McLaren's manager has always been a father figure for him, but now it seems the driver is a bit tired of his control, which has led to more than one argument due to the driver's public appearances."

I'll believe it when I see it in certain terms from a reliable source. Everyone is so desperate to get more hits on their site or sell more papers, they'll manufacture news.

If it's true, who will bet that Dad will still find a way to get his face on TV as much as before?

I think it's interesting and very plausible as he isn't really leaving:

Dad's and Lewis' inexperience with the dealings of the press and public imagine can use some professional help, as the two of them haven't done a very good job at it. Most F1 drivers and pro drivers in general have a professional press/public imagine person employed. Nothing usual about this annoucement at all and infact I'm suprised he's gone this long in F1 without one.

Agreed. This is not surprising. Hamilton is becoming his own corporation and needs more experienced handling. I'm sure Papa Ham will stick around in some sort of capacity.

Q...Finally, today there has been a story on some websites that you are possibly looking at working with a different management team – is that correct?
LH...“Thank you for asking and I can say that this is definitely not true. I am very happy with my management team."

I doubt this is true, but it would probably be a good idea.
