It’s taken a little while to work out, but Pruett says Audi borrowed a page from Ali’s tactics in ‘The Rumble in the Jungle’ to defeat Peugeot at Le Mans this year.

I was born in 1974 and I can tell that I'm not 25 years old.

Hi Marshall, great analysis other than the fact that you can't do math but I won't hold that against you cheese . A couple things that you didn't mention were that the 908's again had problems with overheating and had to hold back on teh rev's. Apparently the rain and tire debris and assorted "clag" got on the radiators and they had to spend a lot of time in the pits cleaning off the rads and the short shifting obviously cost them time on track. Also, their choice of drivers was curious perhaps reflecting their desire for F1-type outright speed. They got fast guys but not guys who knew endurance racing, how to get around traffic, and making driver changes. The only guys on the squad that I would rate as good drivers for Le Mans are Lamy, Sarrazin, Minassian and maybe Montagny. The other thing that is of interest is that Peugeot still finished on the same lap to the Audi and very close so it wasn't like the Ali-Foreman knockout but rather a decision. Not split but a good unanimous decision.

The only possible answer to Pruett's question on pg. two referring to "common sense" and Peugeot's lack thereof vis-a-vis not preparing for the possibility of rain in the forecast, is, well they're French after all, aren't they? They actually proved it twice by not preparing pre-race, and when it occurred, not adjusting. It was like they were in brain lock. Unbelieveable from a "Factory team".
