he has the skills, still... he has the opportunity... not your sayso for what he does... I guess he beats your driver on a regular basis, so you want him to quit...
quit whining...rf

Youre right in that he beats my driver on a regular basis, as he was Davey Allison. To this day, I find it hard to watch that 42 car out there on the track in those Texaco colours and tag.
Davey was my guy, too... it was hard to watch Roush and Yates both trying to find the car that could beat Sr for the championship... If I remember, there was a switch that Yates located different from roush that caused a hic-cup... oh well... go Matt 17...rf

I'm a Ford fan and I'm still routing for Mark... though driving for Hendrick will take some getting used to.

that's good. I just want the people who think Mark is a "turn-coat" for driving for Hendrick to understand that Smith pushed Martin out of Fords- he didn't just quit.

That is so not true. I just looked up old articles on both ESPN and FOX during the time Mark Left Roush for Ginn.

The articles both stated that a truck deal was all but a done deal, but fell apart AFTER Mark took the job with Ginn.

" Roush team president Geoff Smith said several weeks ago that the team would definitely not field a Cup car for Martin in 2007 and that it was close to completing a deal with Martin to drive a Roush truck. But that deal apparently fell apart after the MB2 ride became available."

So Smith did not throw Mark under the bus, Mark made a career decision, period. I do blame them though for not listening to him when he made noises about a part time schedule. At the time though, AAA would not consider such a move.

I'm not a Mark Martin fan, but he's a great, clean driver nad as likeable as a person gets. anyone who has their panties bunched up because he has the opportunity of a lifetime and takes it needs to take a good look at thier own life, find out what makes them so miserable, and spend more energy dealing with that.

Im tired of Jamie McMurray, David Gilliland, Kyle Busch.

I am tired of Roush, Mark, and Junior.

same here.

i about threw up last night when they interviewed martin and he was going on and on about all of his soul searching and talks with his wife about all of this.
what a bunch of snivelin' drivel.

why didn't he just come right out and say that rick threw more $$$ at him than he'd ever made before.
and that he's going to enjoy driving around in circles for 36 races next year for a huge paycheck.

i've never been a fan of his, i never really cared about him one way or another.
but a couple of seasons ago when he punted the 18 gibbs car at the pit road entrance at charlotte, then crashed and got out of his car and danced for the crowd like he was somebody.
at that point he dropped to the bottom of the barrell.
down there with spencer the wallaces' and bodines'.

Wait a minute!!!!! I was there at Chartlotte and it was definitely JJ's fault. Mark crashed right in front of us. We also saw Pat Tryson try to go after JJ. What JJ did was irresponsible.

Of course that was when I was a Martin fan.

the similarities between Elliott and Martin end with them both being veterans. Bill left the load of $ on the table after the 03 season. Martin keeps getting swoon back into full seasons with $. Elliott has been there to help teams develope(MWR and RBR) and help fledging teams (Woods). Martin keeps saying he wants to cut back but when $ gets thrown his way he chases it like a dog fetching a bone. But you know what, good for him! One guys doing it the way he wants and so is the other guy.

I'm tired of Mark Martin. And I understand it's taboo to not like Mark Martin, Kyle Petty, etc. but these guys just don't know when to quit.

BTW, are all of the tracks going to take back those awards they gave him back when he was retiring with Rusty? And what about the rocking chair from Fox, I'm sure it's full of cobwebs.

He told them they could have it back. How can anyone put Mark Martin in with Kyle Petty? Martin is still contending for wins and running up front when he has a car that can, where is Petty? Martin said he wanted to cut back, not sure where everyone is saw this bit about him saying he was going to retire but I do wish someone would show me. I never saw where he said this so if someone can produce it then I will believe it.

What is wrong with someone that can still contend wanting to run in a good car that will give him that chance?

oRIGANALLY HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO GO TO THE TRUCKS FOR A FEW YEARS & THEN RETIRE, JACK WANTED HIM TO DO ANOTHER FULL YEAR, HE DID THAT, THEN RAGAN GOT THE 6 & THAT IS WHEN mARTIN SAID HE WILL DO THE TRUCKS IN THE &6;FULL TIME, SEEMS TO ME THAT mARK NEVER WANTED TO RETIRE TO THE TRUCKS, OR HE WOULD HAVE DONE LAST YEAR, HE WANTED A PATR TIME DRIVE SO GINN LET HIM?
He has pulled the wool over everybody's eyes & a lot of his loyal fans have deserted him? says one thing to jack 2 years earlier & another thing to his buddy Hendrix,

Guess you did not read most of this, just saw what you wanted to see. Try reading everything in here as he NEVER said he was going to retire as was posted previously. Here it is, read it.

^ Nice find.

"I'm not closing the door," he said. "I can do this truck thing, and I get a chance to catch my breath. I would say that there is a good chance that I'd come back full time in '08. I don't know what I want to do, and I'll never know until I get a break. I haven't had a day off, I don't feel like, in 19 years. Yes I've had a day off, but I haven't missed a test, I haven't missed a practice day or a qualifying day or a race day in 19 years, and every year I do more and more and more to stay competitive."

So he said he might be back full time in 08 - he missed it by a year.

If this guy were driving like a field filler and showed that he doesn't have the chops anymore, I'd be joining in the chorus calling for him to retire. He's not. He's still competitive and I think it's great that he's going to be 50 next year and going for a championship. Wish they'd come out with "Salute to Mark" t-shirts, because I'd buy one.

How overbearing was Mark to suck the life out of racing for Matt Martin in such a short period of time? He'd rather go play paintball and skateboard? My kid won't even go near the local skateboard park because of all the low life druggies that like to hang out there. Guess Matt must have a bit more tolerance for that element of society than my 15 year old does.

How can a thread called "Retire Already" NOT be about Kyle Petty??
