Here's something I am personally looking forward to...

Mark's reaction the first time he gets booted out of the way by a teammate. The inventor of the team Wave-By isn't going to be a very happy camper.

I'm tired of Mark Martin. And I understand it's taboo to not like Mark Martin, Kyle Petty, etc. but these guys just don't know when to quit.

BTW, are all of the tracks going to take back those awards they gave him back when he was retiring with Rusty? And what about the rocking chair from Fox, I'm sure it's full of cobwebs.

Mark should give back all the money he shafted from his fans during his phony retirement tour

It was never a retirement tour, it was a salute to the fans tour. We fans knew he wasn't retiring, just stepping back. Now, if Rusty were to come back after doing his Last Call tour, then I'd be pissed.

I love seeing people get wound up over something that doesn'y effect their daily lives in no way shape or form. He never said he was retiring. And it doesn't matter anyways....if the guy wants to race and people are offering him jobs......then why not? Oh....because some guy bought a "Salute to You" frisbee that cost $15. Thats why he should retire. Gimme a break.

Dillner brought up a good point after the announcement. When Mark originally decided to cut back, one of the things he wanted to do was help Matt out with his racing, but nowadays Matt's interest in racing has faded a bit. I say that if Mark wants to make one more run at the Cup, with the best equipment in all of NASCAR, he deserves that chance.

Look at this from Matt's point of view; Dad will take the time to be with me as long as I do what interests him, but not what interests me. Just seems like a slap in the face to Mark's family. JMO

Mark Martin, Matt Martin's Dad, won't be spending less time with Matt Martin, Mark Martin's son. When Matt was really into racing, Mark had to make the decision between his own career and Matt's racing interests, since Matt would be racing at the same time as the Cup series. Now that Matt Martin, race car driver seems to have gone away, that leaves Matt Martin, Mark Martin's son, more time to spend at the Cup races with Mark Martin, Matt Martin's Dad. Matt is also 3 years older, and probably doesn't want Dad around all the time anyway (you know how teenagers are).

I'm gonna go with "Retire when ready"

I agree with you, he still has the fire to race for wins and he is still having alot of fun. IF the guy is having fun still after all these years of racing then more power to him.

I see nothing wrong with Mark Martin racing another year. I will be the first person in line for my "Fourth Annual Farewell Tour" T-shirt!

Mark doesn't need to retire he is still one of the best driver's out there. Guy's like Bill Elliot, Kyle Petty, Kenny Wallace and other's are the ones that need to retire and quit embarrassing themselves.

Actually, wouldn't this be his Comeback Tour?

I have my own theory about why this is happening. If you watch the Big 4 sports (NBA, NHL, NFL, MLB), you'll see that almost every Championship team has a veteran player that they all rally around in a "Win one for the Gipper" kind of way. The Giants had Strahan this year, the Steelers had Bettis a couple years back, and the NHL is full of Stanley Cup winners with that one grizzly vet who goes out on top.

In this context, I think Rick Hendrick is trying to become known as the guy who gives the veterans their last big shot at the Cup. I also think that Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson are at the point in their career where they don't mind sacrificing themselves a bit to give someone like Mark a chance at hoisting the Cup.

he has the skills, still... he has the opportunity... not your sayso for what he does... I guess he beats your driver on a regular basis, so you want him to quit...
quit whining...rf

Youre right in that he beats my driver on a regular basis, as he was Davey Allison. To this day, I find it hard to watch that 42 car out there on the track in those Texaco colours and tag.
