with the exception of what robert said as he left the sport, "it ain't about car guys any longer."

no truer words have been spoken in quite awhile.

I disagree with Yates. What he should've said is that "it ain't only about car guys any longer." Mr. Yates has plenty of options to consider if he's looking for a more stripped-down racing environment that's "about car guys." Although to participate in those forms of racing, he might have to give up the luxury motorcoach with the plasmascreen TV's (which, ironically, was bankrolled in large part by people who are not "car guys").

It has every thing to do with the way Doug runs his race team. His previous sponsors of Mars, UPS, and Havoline didn’t leave the sport, they went to other teams. Which is clear indication that Yates Racing needs to put more effort into there marketing/sales department.

It's really unfortunate, because just two short years ago, Yates had two of the most enviable primary sponsors in the garage. I know they've been getting some support in the sales department from outside sources... hopefully that will bear some fruit for them soon.

We may soon see the day when there are 10 or 11 teams fielding 4 cars each. If you don't think fuel prices will affect each and every American, whether they are race fans or not, you are being naive.

I'm not going to Bristol this year because of fuel costs. Although I'm sure BMS will still sell there are other tracks that will be affected by people like myself who are unwilling to pay so much to travel 500 miles to a race.
