DMG was talking with ESPN - but if the OEMs support the new series guess where their advertising dollars will go.

ESPN has a NASCAR contract, as does Fox, so you can rule them out for covering any breakaway series, there goes Speed too. Since Disney owns ABC and ESPN, don't look there. That leaves CBS and maybe NBC and their affiliates like TNT and such to cover it, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. This may have to go underground.

Or it's time for TRN to step up...

OLN had discussed carrying roadracing at one time too.

OLN became Versus a few years ago. I don't get that or TRN on my cable line-up. But if I need to, I'll buy a dish.

I think the rule book is basically already written.

Superbike - Existing 2009-2010 rules

Supersport - Chose either the WSB or AMA SS or FX rules

450 Singles - would take the most work but most factories make a 450

And use the Honda MD250H as a spec class. Its a real race bike and is already in production

edit - I don't think the weekend schedule and procedures could be a huge hold up. We know there were proposals that AMA didn't accept and I'm sure at least one of them had to be well thought out and have race weekend plans already.

now it's getting interesting.

I'd be blown away if DMG didn't see this coming and have a plan for it.

You would think so, but then I wouldn't have thought they'd make those stupid statements about rider safety.

thanks for the link, joe.

i was thinking the samne thing. that it's a bit late in the year for the factories to pull off anything for '09... and can they afford to pay thier A riders for a year to sit and do nothing so as not to lose them?

this sounds like posturing

Sorry it's my day off and I hadn't had my shower or coffee yet. I missed the part about having rules similar to WBK. This is even better. The part of the story about the European factories is out the window:

From Cycle News
In road racing, each of the championships would have rider and support problems. If the Japanese manufacturers pulled their support from the DMG, they wouldn’t homologate motorcycles, and therefore would pay no contingency money or support any satellite teams. Jordan Suzuki, Attack Kawasaki, Erion Honda, Graves Motorsports Yamaha and others would have no choice but to follow the money to the MIC series. That would leave the DMG with a field of mostly European manufacturers, and none of the factory stars. But with a $50,000 top prize, and $5000 for second through 20th place, in Daytona Superbike, a number of privateers, and smaller manufacturers, would be wise to take part in the DMG series.

Ducati would seem to prefer MIC with the statements they have released. With BMW, Aprilia and KTM committed to WSB why would they support DMG when they can transfer their existing bikes and knowhow to real Superbikes?

I don't believe they are expecting concessions from DMG. Nothing Edmondson has said or released would lead anyone to think you could work with him. Add in his comments today and you have to completely rule it out. DMG may as well rename their series All Harley Road Racing.
