Recently got to Monte Carlo today for the opening day of the Formula BMW International Championship in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Fans and crowds were pouring in today and hotels are completely booked for this weekends events. However if you are in the area or have tickets for the race, Red Bull, Euro Internazionale, ING, BMW and others are putting on events and trailers for the public with driving simulators featuring model Formula BMW racecars, video game centers, the Red Bull Energy Center and free drinks/posters, free BMW test drives at the BMW center including the new 2008 BMW M3, as well as driver autograph sessions featuring some of the best Formula One and Formula BMW drivers including Mika Hakinnen, Brook Johnston, Cole Collier, Alain Prost, Alan Sciuto, Matt Jaskel and more. If you are walking around and have young race fans I would definetly try and get to these early and try to find out when the driver autograph sessions are. We went early and my 12 year old son received a whole signed race wing and picture with Formula BMW driver Brook Johnston. Who knows you may get lucky! If you are heading down the track near the waterfront, the Port of Hercules is an absolutely stunning spot to grab some lunch and enjoy the sea breeze and watch the days practice session. There are several amazing Bistro’s that are great for lunch. As far as hotels go, the gambling is extremely popular and fun to hit up at night with several fun bars and wineries to hit up. If your a huge race fan of the teams and drivers I would try walking into the Columbus Hotel de Monaco on the Waterfront where most of them are staying. Most drivers every year usually stay here and its tradition behind the hotel for racers to be at this hotel. We were lucky enough to run into several drivers and even have a nice comfortable chat in the brasserie with drivers Brook Johnston and Matt Jaskel of Sauber Red Bull Racing Team. Like I said you never know who you will run into. Also, if you have time the Cathedral de Monaco is absolutely stunning and tourists should certainly check it out if you have never been there.

In all of my previous visits to this event, I never had actually seen the whole race, only in TV. It’s worth staying on the look with the best wheels in Monte Carlo. And everybody likes to bring their best wheels.
