As I said in the othet thread, he managed to do what Okada did a Mugello. And Okada was riding on a completely unknown bike, and trying not to crash. So I ask you, is Okada a hot prospect? Is he asking for big money (and yeah, if Melandri got 2.5 million Euro for his Ducati deal, AFTER winning more races than Hayden on a satelite Honda... Spies is asking for big money).

I do not agree.

Spies didn't impress me either. While granted he did fairly well at qualifying he didn't really produce in the race. All the Spies fanboys will say wait till Laguna. Even if he does well there it's irrelevant because Hayden has done well there too but no where else (Assen that year was a fluke due to all other being injured or crashing out). If Spies can come into the series next year and put up results like JT or Dovi then I'll take him seriously. But I seriously doubt he will.

JT and Spies only have chances at a podium on Playstation. Or if there is a race like Assen '06 where you have guys like Nicky and Colin fighting for a win while the rest of the field is out sick.

Bell, you have to come to grips with the fact that Toseland is painfully average. Melandri but the old Tech 3 Yam (the nighmare) on the podium at the old Assen. JT couldn't manage that trick.

As for the Spies people talking all tough after qualifying... looks like the cream rose to the top and Ben sank to the bottom. Say what you want about playing it safe, but the only guy he straight up beat was Melandri. And we know how well Melandri is riding/feeling right now.

Oh, and you are also comparing him to the Mole, who has be consistently slower than Capirossi all year.

stop moving the bar. he did have practice (both in the dry and the wet) and he had tested the bike last year as well.

he put in a credible performance, which is all they asked of him, but in fact, roger hayden's performance at laguna seca was more impressive.

Yes Rogers ride at Laguna was great but Roger had riden Laguna before. Ben has never been to Donington. You need factor that into your perspective. I'm not saying Ben is the next coming of Rossi.

Those two guys have haven't exactly set the world on fire, either. rolleyes Toseland should be shipped back to WSB. Or go join a band or something.

Moving the bar? He said it wasn't impressive, I asked who was. Testing the '07 bike for few laps doesn't mean much. Okada did the same? Okada is a former GP rider and also the test rider of the Honda.

It's not a fixed bar, it moves in accordance with RR's dismissal of everyone e doesn't like.

you're right. that's not to be ignored. please note that i am not bagging on spies. i like him and rate him highly. i just think that it's a dis-service to him to big-up the donington performance more highly than necessary.

as i said: credible performance, which impressed suzuki and most of the paddock. just not one that made one go "WOW"!

I think we're in agreement. It was a good performance and he did what he needed to do. Not earth shattering.
