A person in my local paper last weekend basically said that all racing series in the US should shut down. I just read it and laughed at him.

We went through the same thing in the early 70's when gas prices went from 50 cents to 2 dollars and people adjusted. The car makers started getting better mileage and people cut back for a time. The only news now is that the talking heads still don't get it, we AREN'T building Nuclear Plants yet and we aren't drilling off-shore east or west nor in Alaska. (big sigh) No one paid attention then , so I guess hoping they would now is just wishful thinking on my part, better I guess to moan about a few Caribou then address the problem. We could be online in 5 years with NO dependence on overseas oil IF we started RIGHT NOW, unfortunately we aren't. AA JMHO

Drilling help, maybe. But, better yet, not having drivers on expressways that are in a huge truck or SUV, and there is only one person in that vehicle. We would have gas back at $3.00 or less, if we all drove Morris Minis.

We took a dirt mod. up to N.Y.,driver home town, over the holiday weekend and it cost well over $1000 in fuel to get there and back.Of course we didn't have to go but it cost over $100 to go to our local track. We see a lot of cars for sale because the guys just can't afford the fuel cost along with the other racing cost.

I try to discourage fuel waste, I mean SUV usage whenever possible. I flash the driver dirty looks, make comments to young MILFs such as "Why don't ya ditch the big ugly box and drive something sexy". Stuff like that.

I don't know if there is much truth to this, but, CBS had a short video on this gasoline pricing thing. They were making a prediction that by the year 2012, gasoline will be up to $7.00 a gallon.

Time to dust off that Bill France quote of an airliner transporting a football team uses more fuel than the field in a NASCAR race.

Had a thought on how to replace fossil fuels in a combustion engine... chemical reaction, such as steam and ice vapor. Just throwing out another halfbaked idea.

So true, but CHINA is planning to drill in the Atlantic off our coast, but in international waters.

We need all the tree huggers to move into caves and stay there. That would leave more power for the rest of us.
Seriously, we can point fingers, or insist congress actually do something. Hell, everyone else but the US is.

I was checkin out the results from the recent Road Atlanta SCCA National the other day. The total cars that ran the Group 2 race; F Ford, F Vee, FC, F500 and sumpthin else, was an average F Ford field alone not too many years ago.

Time for a 'gas guzzler' tax on SUVs, something steep enough to get MILFs out of them, say $20,000 a year.

I dont think a Mini would tow my racecar to the track - however I am open to receiving donations to my "Second Car Fund"....I like minis....
