Martinez Wins the John Carroll Classic

Alger, WA- Barry Martinez won his second 410 main of the year at Skagit Speedway. Industrial Resources Inc. presented the John Carroll Classic as is tradition every Memorial Day weekend. Martinez became the first double up winner of the year in his Artisan Homes #66, leading wire to wire in a race filled with cautions. Seven caution flags interrupted the 25 lap feature. Colton Heath brought home second in the XXX, Case Marine & Industrial 7o. Josh Edson was third in the Diehl Ford #83. Heat race wins went to Heath and Aaron Fell. Travis Rutz was fast time at 11.604.

"Rocket" Rod Perkins won his first main event of 2008 in the Budweiser 360 Sprints. Perkins, the longest tenured driver at Skagit Speedway, enjoyed a half lap advantage for the duration of the 25 lap main, leading wire to wire in his Classic Rock 92.9fm #69. Tayler Malsam recovered from a first lap flat tire to drive his way to second place in the Rudeen Racing #26. Jason Cocking was third in the Interiors Unlimited #66. Heat race wins went to Alan Munn and Brian Kirkpatrick. Fast time was Brian Kirkpatrick at 12.177.

Kyle Oman visited victory lane for the first time in his young career at Skagit Speedway. The driver of the Northwest Cruisin' Coffee #6K made a powerful move on a lap 5 restart, running down off the banking in turn two to get past the baysidemarine.com #42 of second place finisher Devin Madonia. Third place went to the National Reservation Bureau #9 of Paul Burdick. Heat race wins went to Glen Reinstra and Todd Rork.

Ken Higby won his first main event of the year in the Wilson Auto Brokers Outlaw Hornets. Higby battled to the inside of race leader Wendy Johnson on lap 11 of the 17 lap main, and streaked away for the victory in his Alger Bar & Grill #8. Second went to Greg Hibma, third to Johnson. Heat race wins went to Johnson and Karl Dahl.

Skagit Speedway wants to extend a get well soon to Ashley Lewellen, driver of the 13a hornet. Ashley broke her arm racing Friday night and will be unable to compete for an undisclosed amount of time.
