I'm waiting for a tire to fail on one of the teams that are doing this and blame it on Goodyear.
They have failed, esp on Roush cars, and it was all Goodyears fault.

Looks like NASCAR may be doing something about it this week.

I dont see a problem with it. It looks absurd but Hornish had some side by side action with that setup tonight and it seemed to work fine.

The rear wheels on some of the cars were turned to the point that some were having difficulty being pushed onto the scales used in inspection. LOL

"BAN THIS!", "BAN THAT!", "BAN THIS GUY!"...

The number of "BAN" threads and comments cracks me up.

Now come on, "Banning this that and the other" is NOT very American, now is it?

The chassis DO crabwalk like a '72 Nova, but does that really matter?

Keep "BANNING" things and we really WILL be stuck with a spec race car.

NASCAR gets sadder every year. Almost ten years to design this new car and they end up with a car that looks like it was in a demolition derby. With all the engineers on the teams you would have thought NASCAR would have had them involved in the cars but didn't. Every time they try to solve a problem the sport becomes more of an embarrassment.

If you want to look at kool LOOKING cars, tune into The Barrett/Jackson Auction.
How is this an embarrassment?
I think just the opposite,The engineers and crew chief's take a 34oo lb. straight axle, 40 year old design car and have the smarts to "bend" it , if you will all to make it corner better and go faster.
They seem to race real good "bent" and if it wasn't for the 600 different hi tech camera angles no one would know the difference.
KUDOS to the brain power that thought of this.
Isn't this is what NASCAR is based on? Good 'ole American ingenuity?

It sure worked for Hornish. His was the most caddy-wampous setup and he ran great despite a meet-and-greet with the yellow wall.

Actually, it looked kinda cool.

It looked like a drunk staggering out of a bar at closing.

This thread is another example that people will complain about everything. Whats next: hey the cars are moving tooo fast, Nascar needs to ban goin fast!....

Do you think that the cars look good crabbing down the straights? Don't you think it's embarrassing that the top series in NASCAR is getting laughed at because of how those cars are crabbing like some old junker?

I agree that NASCAR fans are the ultimate whiners but this is one instance where there it's totally justified.

If making the cars crabwalk down the straights makes the car drive better than what is the quality of racing going to be when NASCAR bans it? (considering it was already pretty low to begin with)

As always, I appreciate the ingenuity the crew chiefs and engineers apply to the setups of these cars; however, it seems that this latest invention is pushing the envelope a little too far. Part of the problem is the rules package NASCAR has given to these teams.

Oh, and thanks for having me. First post and all that.

It does add a degree of excitement since every time a car comes out of turn it looks like it's spinning... It was pretty hilarious to see Hornish's car look like it was headed towards the infield when it was going down the back straight...

I agree. These things have been driving terrible, and doing the "crabwalk" is making them drive ALOT better. How many "this car is driving absurd" comments have you heard over the past couple weeks? There have been "ill-handling" cars, yes, but they're not as bad as they were. And honestly, back in the pack, there was some decent side by side racing. If it helps them make the car handle better and lets the drivers feel more comfortable with another car next to them, I say let them do it.

MCMIKE referring to the cancellation of “Autoline Detroit”

Due to the constant need for logging in John McElroy gave up, missing the PMs telling him when they were taping....

^^^^^^^^
EDIT .....and seeing how this reply was submitted almost seven years before the thread started, he probably wasn’t looking for the PMs back then anyhow.....
