Not really surprising. Renault don't seem to have much patience with anyone but Fisi.

I personally can't stand Piquet Jr ever since his times in GP2 so much of what I say is tainted with bias...raspberry

I agree that Piquet Jr should be doing better mostly on an up and now coming team like Renault. You can say he did have some unfortunate incidents like the crash with Bourdais but even when he finished races he was well off the pace of what we would expect from Renault.

You can say that this is Piquet's first year with Renault and that he is the partner of a 2 time world champion which a lot of experience and vigor. If compared to other past year GP2 rookie though such as Heikki - Piquet can't compare.

On a side note as I been saying I feel GP2 is sinking in talent and is more of "who can bring me the most money with the best last name" rather then "who can drive and drive well in F1 from GP2". Guys like Romain might change this but we'll see...

Not surprised here, either, but after all the bravado, bluster, and the blarney that was coming from Nelson Piquet Sr before the season began, concerning the abilities of Jr, one might have expected closer competition between the rookie and the world champion, Alonso.

Knowing Flavio Briatore, who showed Jarno Trulli the door, even after he had taken the checkers in Monaco, one needs to be more than a winner to make the team principal happy. So far, Nelson Piquet Jr is far from a that. For his sake, he had better get with the program, or be harangued out of the team like Fisichella.

We haven't heard much from dad recently. I seem to recall lots of "he's not afraid of Alonso" cocky boasted during the off-season. he seems to have gone silent.

I think he is in trouble if he doesn't turn things around. With Fred to set up the car, he should be doing at least as well as Hammy did last year ...... challenging a 2x WDC.

Right after the Monaco GP last season there was talk of Renault replacing Heikki because he wasn't performing up to expectations. I would have to say that Heikki doing pretty good job at McLaren this season. Piquet Jr. has talent to race in F1. He just needs good kick in the @ss. Renault needs to take part of the blame. First Heikki and now Junior.

Piquet is a terrible f1 rookie. He cannot perform he acts pretty from the grid and then gets in the car and gets his helmet handed to him by alonso. Last time i saw this situation in f1 the rookie wasn't outperformed by alonso by this much over 17 races.

Renault needs to improve the car.

Just because a 2 x WDC finishes in the top 10 in a tractor, it does not mean his rookie teammate will do as well.

It just shows that the gap between a rookie and a world champion is much bigger in a midpack car than winning from pole in the fastest car of the grid.

Would Alonso want Sato at Renault? He might still be bitter about Canada.
