I seem to remember IMSA's GTO-GTU classes being tube frame racers. These were what most of us thought of when the term "GT" was used. Not to mention SCCA's GT1-GT2. These "GT" concepts are carried on today with the DTM and Super GT series.

Silhouette cars like in DTM aren't welcomed by the ACO, FIA or IMSA or the OEM's would have asked for it, its cheaper to build, but doesn't relate to the road car AT ALL.

This is the dumbest thing I have read about the history of American sports car racing. Go read a book or watch some film about what raced in IMSA during the 70s and 80s before making comments about GT class heritage.
