Do we really need to wait a week to see the 2nd day qualifiers? I don't know how many of your are really interested in qualifying days outside of the pole day and bump day, but I'm sure not.
It's not like the old days when someone could actually produce a faster speed that the pole speed on the 2nd day so why do have to wait until Saturday?
It just seems so unfair because everyone outside the first day qualifiers is at a disadvantage in terms of time spent practicing with race day set up. Also why do they have to be off the track Monday and Tuesday? In the old days, they didn't have days off. I understand we need to limit the costs by limiting the number of tires, but isn't this kind of ridiculous? Maybe we should limit the number of laps overall or per day wouldn't that make more sense?

Blame God for the rain then. Just make sure there's no lightning nearby.
First, get rid of the 11 only rule. If not, have Sunday qualifying be run on Monday or Tuesday. I would also only bother having one day of Bump qualifying. If you can't get in on Saturday the 17th, tough.
Although better if qualifications resume on Monday or Tuesday in case of Sunday rain.... Just having two days off is not good, there should be an on-track action all the time when possible.
Well I think after the media slammed this year, they will have a different qualifying format for 2009.
Better yet: Going back to the way it was before the 11-11-11 rule. It worked fine when there was plenty of drivers and cars.
Robin Miller wrote an article on Speedtv.com about this very subject, as I figured he would. Ryan Hunter-Reay had speed to make the field, then went back out to make the "top 11" and crashed. Townsend Bell, and all of the Champ Car drivers, do not have a backup car. They now need to #####-foot around this week praying they don't crash, when they already turned laps that would not have been bumped. Barnhardt and George can smell the wind blowing on this, they'll change it for next year.

What media slam? For me, I like it just the way it is. Had the full four days of qualifying happened, we would have drama on every day.
Well if i can blame mother nature for ruining my plans everytime it rains....i'd have ALOT of blame to go round. When we enter the 24th century, and the Star Trek era, when we can control the weather, there is nothing that we can do.
I remember like 10 years ago (or whenever it was) the race wasn't ran until Tuesday because of rain. I wondered why they didn't just run it when it was sunny the day before.

It was the '97 race that Luyendyk won. They did try to run the day before. They got in 15 laps and then it started raining again.

It would be nice if they could build some flexibility into the schedule such as holding 2nd day qualifying Monday in the event one of the weekend days are rained out. I could see them not wanting to hold pole day qualifying Monday in the event the entire weekend gets rained out.
Further, we have good weather this week on Monday and Tuesday on scheduled off days, but rain is forcast for Tuesday night into Wednesday. So another practice day Wednesday will be shortened or cancelled due to rain. With the forcast being what it is, they really should be out there practicing on these clear days, especially with two pratice days having been rained out last week and a third having been shortened by rain.
Rain isnt good but those are the rules going in. IMHO the 11-11-11 format is good entertainment if the weather holds. Maybe the teams that dont make it on day 1 should just get faster. Lots of screaming seems to be coming from the former CC fans, next year the ex CC teams will do better. The field will be full and the fastest of the remaining will probably be in a similar order they would have if all spots were open day 1. The extra days of practice may help some teams that were slower pick up a few spots but I would expect Rahal, Hamilton and Wilson to be 12-15 or very close to it. I think we would not have had the multiple attempts for the pole if the speeds were closer as they should be next year and there was a real danger of getting bumped but then again if more cars were quicker more bumping would occur.
I am just sick of the crying about how unfair being rained out is. Look, you know what might happen going into this month...stop crying about it. nothing you can do about it. Maybe you should help chip in, and build a roof over the speedway.
