There was an incident during the Turkish GP2 sprint race in which two stray dogs were running on the back straight and unfortunately one of the dogs got struck by Bruno Senna's iSport machine. Senna's race was over with his right front suspension and wing were damaged. The safety car was brought out to slow the field and the other dog made it out safely.

Not the first case of stray dogs getting on to a road course during a race weekend.

The Mexico City circuit of the 60s and 1970 was notorious for its frequency of having stray dogs running around the track.

It is interesting that this comes up because I am in the process of re-reading Peter Revson's autobiography Speed with Style and just read yesterday a passage about his escapade in the Argentinian Grand Prix. Which, due to the massive political turmoil and frequent kidnappings of foreigners in that country during the mid-70's, the drivers were given full-armed security to, at, and away from the track. An excerpt of the passage as follows:

"...By the way, the vaunted Argentinian police did not stop at getting us to the track in the shortest possible time. At one point, just before the race started, a dog ran out onto the track. One of those cops assigned to control the crowd dispatched it with his machine gun. Evidently nothing is spared in making the track safe for the visiting GP drivers in Buenos Aires...."

Nothing spared indeed apparently. Track control, via totalitarian dictatorship. Yeesh...
