My June Motorcyclist magazine arrived late yesterday, and the feature article is on the RC8. They give it good marks overall, the typical motomag treatment.

BUT --

The more I see of this bike the worse it looks. I suppose there is something to be said for the pure shock value of its appearance, but in the eyes of this beholder it is just plain fugly. sick sick

To each his own. I think it looks great and I would probably buy one. Only thing stopping me is that I could get a used 1098 for less.

My admittedly-prejudiced thought would be to go for the 1098 no matter how used it is. At least there won't be folks laughing at you behind your back (and averting their eyes when you roll up....) grin grin grin grin

I don't give a good god d4mn if some wank3r wants to laugh at my RC8 behind my back. If someone is such a petty fool they're not worth my time. I honestly can't think of any bike on the road that I'd laugh at someone for riding, unless it was modified in some stupid way.

Gee - does someone thinking your bike looks weird make them a bleep?

My advice remains to get the Ducati and maintain your self-esteem.

Everyone has their own taste, I'm not knocking that. But if you're talking about people laughing and being a jackass about it then yeah, I have an amount of disdain for them. Those are the type of worthless posers who spend their time ridiculing other bikers while contorting their arms to pat themselves on the back for how "cool" they are. Their self worth comes from what they've purchased not who they are, so they feel the need to bash people who ride something that doesn't meet their definition of cool. I've met a few people like that and I actively avoid them and/or I tell them what hot place they can go with that nonsense.

My apologies for making you assume a defensive posture about your tastes. You are utterly correct in noting tastes vary - as do opinions, and we all know what is said about opinions.

However it is still my firmest belief you would like yourself better if you were to own the Ducati instead of the shall we say unusual-styled KTM. Just my two cents' worth. cool smile

I don't think I'd feel any different about myself between the two bikes. The only thing that might make me feel different is if I had trouble with reliability. In that respect the RC8 is an unknown quantity, especially since this is their first superbike. Their dealer network is also relatively sparse. I don't how tough it would be to get parts or warranty service. It might be the kind of thing that one should watch unfold for a little before laying down the green to buy the bike.

Preposterous! I will not accept this flagrant outrage!!!

I guess that's my FAIL for the day. Next time I'll be sure to read the memo =P
