Roberts was a factory rider for Yamaha his entire career. However you guys want to nit-pick his level of support you think he had is irrelevant.
Gary, you could probably mince word to say that Kenny wasn't always the #1 rider at Yamaha and had to make do with what they gave him. Yes, he was the only one to use Goodyear tires and Yamaha prodded him to race 250s& F1 at the same time as the 500s, while the other guys got to focus on the 500s alone. There's been a lot written about Kenny lately. The current RoadRacing World and last months Racer Magazine had something about him. In the end, I do believe Yamaha was writing his checks but at the same time he said he made money doing personal appearances.
Roberts actually explains in the article where his budget came from - most was from Goodyear, Yamaha of America gave him the bikes but they weren't works equipment. I know Kel was porting them himself, etc.
It's a pretty good article if you didn't read it - I Google'ed it, hadn't read it before. I'm a Roberts fan from the old days when I used to hang around Laguna Seca every free moment I had. Kenny was usually pretty talkative in test sessions (and funny as hell) and I've heard a lot of this before from him and from Kel.
I still remember well asking Kel to autograph my Motocourse 25+ years ago - he said 'uh, I think you are looking for Kenny'. I said I wanted any world champion's autograph I could get - he seemed stunned, no one in the US ever remembered the guy was a former world champion in his own right, he was just Kenny's crew chief. I miss those days!

Right, that's not the point. We were talking about a factory ride. You tried comparing to when you got help from a local shop. Big difference.

whatever. he didn't have full support either. yamaha of america then had probably less into racing than HOH has now... you can't backpedal the moron comment now

So what exactly is DMG going to do when one specific rider starts dominating the class on their proposed rules?
Add weight on by eating some McDonalds, intake plates or pace car?
I'm sure someone will dominate. The SS class is nearly stock and 3 riders blew the field yesterday and it is clear the Graves bikes are dominating for now.
If their idea is to keep the pack together by throwing a debris flag every now and then we should be able to enjoy the melee at turn 1 after every restart.
Ya got it backwards. They do that for the end of the race. Then ya get a 2 lap shoot out. Green-White-Checker... Boggity Boogity!
